Three days ago you heard reports of some flu spreading about the local schools of your home town of Mattoon, Illinois. Nothing major except that it had an unusually high number of cases and only seemed to target one school. At first. Even then there were no casualties just a lot of kids staying home, which naturally meant a lot of parents stayed home to tend to their little ones. However in the past eight hours all hell has literally broken lose. News reports of hundreds dying and then somehow, some way the corpses would be brought back to life. But they weren’t the same. Little Johnny and little Amanda didn’t recognize mom and dad any more, they were just hungry. So naturally they began to eat the first things they could, dear old mom and dad who stayed home. Now the chaos has spread as the local fire departments and police officers come rushing in to try and help pick up the pieces. Most horrifyingly of all is that the ambulances are here, trying to tend to those who have been bitten and chewed up. The subsequent crashes, coupled with the earlier ones of the people trying to go about their daily lives and their own flu symptoms caught up with them, have almost turned the city in to a walking inferno. For those of you unfamiliar with the city and states, it is a little town that has NO hills, mountains or woods whatsoever. This means you can see what is coming, but they can also see you. And there is no high ground except for the little sections of town where the shops are. Houses are several hundred feet, sometimes miles apart.

I'd gather up all the weapons i have in the house (being an active hunter) along with some camping supplies. Then i'd go into the local grocery store and take canned soup and other non perishable foods. I'd make my way to Lake Paradise using my pickup truck abandoning it to hike the last mile or so to one of my regular campsites (cleverly hiding the vehicle to avoid it getting swarmed). If i encountered any zombies along the way i'd shoot them dead, and if i see any living people i'd quickly ask what their plans were. If they were at all close to mine i'd ask if they would want to come along or not. Hopefully i'd find one or two friends and/or neighbors (none of my relatives live in Mattoon) to come along as their is safety in numbers. Living near Lake Paradise would provide water and fish along with the other wildlife that use the lake as a water source for when i run out of the food i'd brought along. If hunting doesn't work out i could go back into the city for supplies (filling up the tank and another jug every once in a while) avoiding the walking dead as well as i could and killing those i can't. Hopefully i could survive by myself and/or with a group
