Are we prepared to rackle malware outbreaks?

Postby Roi-antimalwaregeek » 31 Oct 2009, 02:37

Hello
This Article is by roi the :ugeek:

January, February and March 2009 were one of the times when the whole world was affected by a worm called conficker a.k.a. kido
a.k.a. downadup. Many computers were affected by this worm. There were about 5 variants of this worm. A,B,C,D and E.
It is till a threat today. The basic sym[toms to know whether you are infected by this worm are
1. System Restore doesn't function as expected.
2.You cant access websites relating to computer security
3.You constantly receive virus alerts from your antivirus saying that a virus or malware is found
4.Windows Updates don't function

Now, One can download a conficker removal tool just to be on the safer side.
The worm monitors the user's browsing data and connects to the internet domain to download malware without the consent of the user.

This threat was very dangerous.

Now why am I telling this when it was a story about 6 months ago.
Well just to tell you, no one was rather prepared to tackle the worm. Some companies did predict about it but thats all.
No one ever did believe that such athing would happen.

So are we prepared for tackling such wild virus outbreaks. Can't say.
Just having a antivirus doesnt mean you are 100% protected.
One needs to have more than that.
Many products are based on heuristic analysis.
Therefore the product will catch the virus only if it has the virus definitions.
Therefore, it is good to have a different kind of software.
Many antivirus companies are constantly trying to safeguard the users.
As basics, how can we protect ourselves, By:
1. Removing the virus
2. Removing the effects of the virus
3. Denying access to the file infected.

Now the 1st and 3rd techniques are already in today's use.
But now it is good to have the 2nd technique because it is difficult to constantly keep track with the latest outbreaks.

Panda Cloud technology is good, It monitors the activities. K7 computing have a system monitor which doesnt allow software to
function without the consent of the user. Eset has system inspector. These are some examples.

So as I say please stay safe people. DONT click on malicious links and things which you supect.
Try to create awareness in your locality(If required) about having a good antivirus.

necroing a forum game is better because it reignites the game. Necroing a topic like this with one or two words doesn't prompt any conversation and is just really annoying.
