Chapter 10

Oakpaw look confused. He looked up, and saw the the sun was almost setting. Rockstar must be worried! Mousetail dipped her head back at the leader. “Yes, he must. If you don't mind, we will be going now, right, Deadfire?” Mousetail meowed. Deadfire looked at Dawnstar, then Flamepaw's dead body, then Mousetail. He dipped his head o Dawnstar. “Yes, we will be going. I hope you will recover. If WaterClan attacks MoonClan again, you will have RockClan's help,” Deadfire said.
Gratefullness shined in Dawnstar's eyes, and the leader dipped her head. The patrol walked away, and out of the camp, and headed home. Oakpaw's wounds stun. “Deadfire, why didn't we get cleaned up?” Oakpaw asked. Deadfire replied, without looking, “Becuase, we would be wasting their supplies. We can handle our wounds by the time we get to camp.”
Snakepaw sighed, and Mousetail shot a look at Snakepaw. Snakepaw's head fell, and tail dropped. Oakpaw smiled at his brother to make him feel better, but his brother didn't look up. Oakpaw saw that Snakepaw had a bad cut on his back, and it still oozed with blood.
The patrol reached the border, and continued their way to camp. The terrain became even more rocky, and less bushes and trees, could be seen.
“There you are! Where have you been?” a voice said. Oakpaw jumped, and looked up, to see Dawnflower, Stoneclaw, and Bounceleg. I guess Rockstar did worry. “It took a while there,” Deadfire replied. Bounceleg rushed passed Deadfire and Mousetail, and started licking Oakpaw's and Snakepaw's wounds. “What happened to you guys? You're all hurt!” Bounceleg meowed firmly. Stoneclaw sighed.
“MoonClan was attacked from WaterClan. We had to stay and help them. They would've been wiped out for good,” Mousetail explained. Stoneclaw snorted. “Yeah, and hedgehogs fly! MoonClan is capible of protecting their home.” Deadfire growled.
“You don't get it! MoonClan has losted so many warriors in their battles. I only saw nine warriors in total.” Dawnflower gasped. “I think we should help them.” The she'cat declared. “We should try to get WaterClan away. I saw a lot of kits in the nursery, and most of the are almost old enough to be apprentices. If we give them time, they should recover quickly,” Snakepaw infered. Deadfire, Mousetail, and Bounceleg nodded to Snakepaw in aggreement. “We just have to keep WaterClan away,” Oakpaw meowed.
“We could threaten them will war, if TreeClan would allow it. MoonClan would clearly say yes.” Stoneclaw put in. Dawnflower and Deadfire nodded,
“I don't think that would work.” Th cats turned their head to see Bounceleg speak up. “WaterClan would think their so great, they would take on the challenge. They would attack TreeClan and MoonClan, and ten we would have to station our warriors in MoonClan and TreeClan territory. A massive war will happen, and I don't want it to happen.”
Dawnflower, Stoneclaw, and Deadfire nodded. “We should talk about this with Rockstar, and the rest of the clan. Come on, and lets get those wounds checked,” Stoneclaw meowed. Stoneclaw turned around, and flicked his tail, signaling the rest of the clans to follow
The sun began to set farther and farther over the horizon. Birds chirping had stopped, and much of the animals in the rocky land had went to sleep.
Finally, the patrol had arrived at camp. A skinny light brown tom was guarding the camp, as well as Tawnycloud.
“Greetings, Stoneclaw.” The brown tom said. Stoneclaw nodded to the tom, and walked in the camp. The rest of the patrol followed. When they entered, alost half of the clan was waiting, for the patrol to come back. Oh great! The whole clan worried! “Oakpaw! Snakepaw! You're okay!” Oakpaw saw his mother, running toward her sons.
Snakepaw sighed. Squirrelfur vigerously licked both of her sons. She gasped, when she saw that they had wounds. “WaterClan attacked MoonClan while we were there. Don't worry, deary, they fought well,” Deadfire snickered. Deadfire had a habbit of saying deary, when joking with she-cats.
His mother, Heatherstrike, had done that a lot. Squirrelfur glared at the black tom. Nighttail and Birchkit approuched the cats. They both had a bundle of herbs.
“Birchkit, what do we use to stop bleeding?” Nighttail asked the little kit. “We use cobwebs, then use the juice of marigold to stop infection,” Birchkit replied. He set down his bundle, and started chewing the marigold. Nighttail purred with delight. Nighttail set his herb bundle down, and started working on Bounceleg. Birchkit worked on Deadfire.
“Nighttail,” Creekwing rasped. The old she-cat had dragged herself across the clearing. “Hmm?” Nighttail replied. “I need you to apply alfalfa to Tallfur's sharp teeth, She's been complaining they hurt again. Then give her some poppy seeds to ease pain. She says the alfalfa givers her pain,” Creekwing ordered.
Nighttail snorted. “That old bag of bones complains about everything. I will put the alfalfa later. She can wait,” Nighttail replied.
Creekwing sighed, and walked away. She went to the Fresh-kill pile, and picked out a mice, and carried it to the queens, who were laying in the shade. Redkit was playing with a ball of moss. Nightfang greeted the old she-cat with a purr, and Honeyfur flicked her ears, to greet Creekwing.
Oakpaw jumped when Birchkit climbed up his foot. Oakpaw winced as Birchkit's tiny paws pressed against his wounds. “Hold still. One movement, and I'll go flying off!” Birchkit meowed. He spit the marigold juice of his biggest wounds, and covered them with cobwebs. The wounds stung, but not much.
“I haven't seen you in a while. How ahe you been?” Oakpaw asked the little kit. “Great. Nighttail is teaching me. And, he says that if we stay here longer, then I can be his aprentice. Creekwing says that he's ready for one,” Birchkit meowed. He screamed in excitement.
“Hey, be careful up there! I got some bad wounds!” Oakpaw hissed. Moments passed. All he could feel was Birchkit's tiny paws padding everywhere on his back. Then, Birchkit walked up Oakpaw's forehead, and bounced off, landing gracefully. “Thank you,” Oakpaw meowed to the little kit. Birchkit nodded, and walked over to Deadfire, to check his scratches. That kit is very balanced. I've never seen a kit walk all over cats! Oakpaw padded to the Fresh-Kill pile, and took a rabbit.
Oakpaw couldn't stop thinking that Flamepaw died. The moment flashed in his head. The red tom jumping in the air, and Leopardshine's claws sticking out, and going deep in Flamepaw's body. Then, Starlingfrost weeping, and on the ground flashed in his mind, and Ferrettoth, her mate, tried to nudge his mate to her paws.
He walked over to Snakepaw, who was resting in the shade. He poked his sleeping brother, with his paws. “What?” Snakepaw growled. He slowly arose form his paws, and blinked his eyes. His eyes filled with anger, but disapeared when his gazed went to his brother.
“Yes? Is that for me?” Snakepaw hissed, amusement behind his voice. Oakpaw snorted. “Sure. Do you want to share this?” Oakpaw asked Snakepaw. “Well, I am hungry,” Snakepaw snickered. Oakpaw sighed, and dropped the rabbit, and started eating. Snakepaw didn't move.
Oakpaw looked up from his food, and looked at Snakepaw. His eyes were clouded with worry. “Is it about Flamepaw?” It seemed like Snakepaw was more shaken then Oakpaw was. Snakepaw nodded slowly. He snugged closer to the rabbit, and took a big bite into it.
Oakpaw seemed more happy that Snakepaw had started to eat. He'll get over the death. I'm sure of it. Oakpaw tok one more bite, then licked his lips, and let Snakepaw finish the rest. Oakpaw rose to his paws, and dragged himself up. He looked up, and it was almost sunset. These days just go by so fast, don't they? A cold chill ran through the camp, and Creekwing sat up.
She muttered to herself, “Leaf-bare is coming soon. Bless RockClan that nothing happens.” Creekwing got up, and stalked into the Medicine Cat den. Birchkit had greeted her, who was sorting out the new herbs that were brought in, for storage. Creekwing nodded to the kit.
“You are doing such a great job, young one. You will become a great medicine cat, and Feathershine will be proud of you,” Creekwing meowed, with a smile on her face. Birchkit's eyes gleamed with excitement. “Really?” He squeked. “Yes, really. I couldn't be more rpoud of you myself!” the old she-cat declared. She walked in her den, and curled up.
Birchkit continued with his job, with a smile on his face. Oakpaw purred, and remembered how he had saved this little kit from a fox, and her mother. Oakapw turned to see Nightfang, chatting along with Honeyfur, and Squrrelfur had greeting them, with two mice, and a thrush.
Oakpaw smiled t his mother. He turned over to look at his father, who was talking with Deadfire, Minttail, Nightwatcher, Bounceleg, and Grayheart, with Rockstar. Stonelcaww had started to draw with his claw in the sand.
Oakpaw pricked his ears. “I've sent patorls to scout the territory, to find new, and easier paths to reach the borders quicker,” Stoneclaw had begun. He drew a good map of RockClan territory, and dotted some paths.
“Acording to the patrol's reports, ever sicne the Great Fire, the bushes has been growing awkwardly, and have been growing on the paths of our origional walkways. The scouts have found new paths, that will be easily to trail out.”
“Also, there is new places where there is a lot of prey. The great Fire also wiped most of our best hunting places, so, we have found them here,” Stoneclaw stratched into the dirt, seperate places.
Oakpaw stopped listening to the conversation. He looked over to Snakepaw, who was still in the shades. His eyes clouded with sadness. Still sad about it? Oakpaw sighed, and walked onto the apprentice's den. He walked to his bed, and fell asleep.
