why is it that we have dreams in the first place? i mean, its almst like you have too much imagination and your brain tries to put it somewhere else? i mean, what the hell? it seems like everytime i do have a dream, which isnt very often, its a nightmare, and i wake up at 2 in the morning, and unable to go back to sleep, just kinda lay there in the dark, seeing monsters in the shadows... O.o?
i had to post that one "as-is" because my engineering teacher made me get off the comp. so he could begin the lesson...
But anyways, ya, why do we have to have dreams in the first place? it bothers me sometimes... ya, now lightning is bothering me and i cant get my thoughts together, we have the same homeroom... >_< ugh...

Re: Nightmares
I used to get Nightmares all the time, util i became a tad heartless. I don't dream much anymore.. Haven't gotten a nightmare in a loooong long time either. O.o
But when I do, they are kind of scary.
And. Dreams are for people to escape to worlds to have fun, to actually experience wishes they wanted, or new worlds and such. Though, that's not always the case. I'm not sure why we dream, but I love dreaming, though I don't dream a lot.

Re: Nightmares
have only had one nightmare in the last year and thats after I had a horror movie marathon. A mixture of Saw Paranormal activity and the blair witch project is not good for your mind.

What you should do before going to sleep is tire yourself out. Like, do a lot of chores, work around the house, or just play a sport or something so you can be extremely tired by the end of the night. Even go for a quick run or something. Or, if you can't do any of these, tire yourself out by staying up extremely late. These helped me. I hope they helped you.

Re: Nightmares
Nobody fully understands yet why we have dreams, or why we really even sleep. Ideas range from your brain processing your day, to your conscience speaking to you...
However, everyone dreams, the difficulty is remembering it. Most people dream for just under 2 hours a night - quite a bit, seeing as you often barely remember any details about it.
Dreams can tell you alot about how you're feeling about your life. I had quite a strange dream a few days ago about putting miniature coats on ladybirds (ladybugs to the americans here). Ladybirds symbolise beauty and good luck in your life, and coats symbolise wanting to present something, or protect yourself and be defensive. My dream may represent that I am having good luck but being too defensive about it. Is this my conscience speaking to me?
Keeping a dream journal can help you decipher your nightmares. Real life issues such as stress can give you nightmares, and by sorting these out you can stop having them.

Re: Nightmares
My theory: Dreams allow one to experience situations they face/are impending to encounter, in order to help resolve internal turmoil over what they should do if this said situation were to be placed in ones path-- thus giving one some knowledge on how they may tackle the obstacle. Stressful social situations, disasters, and violent encounters often appear in my dreams =/ Lucid dreaming is said to be more beneficial as a learning tool, as the subject is able to understand that what they are experiencing is a dream, thus able to manipulate/gain knowledge from the dream. This is in comparison to one being lost in their subconscience in "normal" dreams. On a less-related note; you know when you wake up from a dream thinking, "What the Hell is wrong with my brain"? My theory is that these wacky and nonsensical dreams is our minds trying to sort themselves out. In this case, one may argue that the mind is trying to "cleanse" itself, or free itself from "clutter", which is placing unresolved/questionable events, images, or sounds one may have collected throughout time in either a subconscious category, or playing with ideas that revolve around these questionable experiences.
Personally, my dreams have aided me in overcoming a long-time fear of tornadoes. However, they have certainly strengthened in very freaky situations lately. Though, I am convinced that the genre of dreams one experiences most is something that comes with age. I used to always have really fun dreams. Now their just annoyingly frightening.
