Stressful social situations, disasters, and violent encounters often appear in my dreams =/ Lucid dreaming is said to be more beneficial as a learning tool, as the subject is able to understand that what they are experiencing is a dream, thus able to manipulate/gain knowledge from the dream. This is in comparison to one being lost in their subconscience in "normal" dreams. On a less-related note; you know when you wake up from a dream thinking, "What the Hell is wrong with my brain"? My theory is that these wacky and nonsensical dreams is our minds trying to sort themselves out. In this case, one may argue that the mind is trying to "cleanse" itself, or free itself from "clutter", which is placing unresolved/questionable events, images, or sounds one may have collected throughout time in either a subconscious category, or playing with ideas that revolve around these questionable experiences.
Personally, my dreams have aided me in overcoming a long-time fear of tornadoes. However, they have certainly strengthened in very freaky situations lately. Though, I am convinced that the genre of dreams one experiences most is something that comes with age. I used to always have really fun dreams. Now their just annoyingly frightening.
