... It's not even about the Pilgrims, they started the tradition, and we keep it going. Why has this topic turned into a "Let's hate other people's heritage" topic?
I am really upset about this, as it was just meant to be a holiday topic, not discussing the pilgrim's dumb choices.
If you insist on talking crap about that, go make a topic on Serious Discussion.

Don't forget the concentration camps and genocide.

And a historical misconception about the Puritans.

The reason why the English didn't like them was because they were bad-shit crazy. They spewed so much hate, told so many people they were going to hell, they ran around towns yelling at people, literally no one liked them. They were like the Westboro Baptist Church for America.

I think you mean batshit.

is it batshit? i thought it was bad.

And matt, didn't you kind of criticize England's religious policies when talking about thanksgiving? I mean it was kind of in your topic.

But as far as I'm concerned, all the English people here didn't object to it, nor find it offensive. Hell, i bet some of them agreed. If someone points out something bad or wrong in a holiday or tradition, i think the first response should be, "wow that is really wrong" not, "omfg ur offending my culture!!! why don't you all go offend other peoples cultures omg!!11!1"

3 Things about thanksgiving

1. There were two types of people who came to America initially, the Puritans (those who wanted to purify the Anglican Church from within) and the Pilgrims (who were actually separatists and wanted to practice other forms of Christianity).

2. Turkey wasn't consumed at thanksgiving, it was venison and corn for the most part.

3. I like turkey.

"A person who is batshit crazy is certifiably nuts. The phrase has origins in the old fashioned term "bats in the belfry." Old churches had a structure at the top called a belfry, which housed the bells. Bats are extremely sensitive to sound and would never inhabit a belfry of an active church where the bell was rung frequently. Occasionally, when a church was abandoned and many years passed without the bell being rung, bats would eventually come and inhabit the belfry. So, when somebody said that an individual had "bats in the belfry" it meant that there was "nothing going on upstairs" (as in that person's brain). To be BATSHIT CRAZY is to take this even a step further. A person who is batshit crazy is so nuts that not only is their belfry full of bats, but so many bats have been there for so long that the belfry is coated in batshit. Hence, the craziest of crazy people are BATSHIT CRAZY.
Dude that guy on the corner wears a tinfoil hat and ripped all the wires out of his house so the government couldn't listen to his thoughts.

Really?

Yeah, he's batshit crazy."

that makes a lot more sense now thank you.
