In the news lately a controversial topic is plastic bag usage. By 2013 plastic bags are said to be banned and even illegal in big cities like Toronto and L.A due to there harmfulness, but what do you think.....If this law is passed

Pros :

Less waste from harmful plastic meaning the factories that produce bags will lower there carbon emissions thus keeping clean air

Only 25% of people request plastic bags so it would be a waste of money materials and time... so these bags aren't needed.

These bags can be harmful to animals and an ecosystems if disposed in various ways for the environment

Cons :

The versatility of these bags are amazing..... used for taking out the trash, garbage holder, and cheap to make unlike reusable bags.

Reuse-able bags can carry odor's and contamination which have to be cleaned, but are very hard to

The factories do carry jobs for workers not to mention the small businesses that carry bags would lose major profit

Have you decided :?:

To this, I think 50/50.

Good because it's safe.
Bad, because we'll need to find new ways to bring food home, unless they make different bags, which could cost money.
If they don't cost money, they it doesn't technically matter.

Needs to be implemented, with research on how to replace plastic bags with a better alternative going in the meantime.

I think it's a good idea. Reusable bags only cost like 50 cents and can be used multiple times and washed if they get dirty. We already have stores over here not using plastic, or charging 10 or 20 cents a bag for plastic bags. So Its really not that hard to change from plastic to reusable.

Reusable bags are not convenient. Plastic bags are. We need to do research to find a way of making a plastic bag that is easily recyclable and/or biodegradable. People are lazy and I find taking my own bag into a supermarket a pain in the butt.

it's the same way here as music described.
most stores/supermarkets charge you for a plastic bag.

a reusable bag is quite good.

and you use chips/crisps bags as an alternative for other waste instead of a plastic bag.
problem solved.

you'll always have the plastic bags, but the aim is to downsize the immense overuse where alternatives that already excist can be used with a greater cost/effeciency and less impact on the envirronment.

We already have degradable plastic bags here in the UK, and they don't charge for them. I only reuse the stronger plastic bags, not the flimsy ones - usually from the better stores are the best.

They should make them a bit more better looking, then maybe they'd be reused.

They're very useful for crafts though, I've made a bikini set out of plastic bags before (competition for best recycled clothing wear  )
