Truth About Fairy Tales and Myths

Where did fairy tales and myths originate from? Why were they made and for what purpose? Since mankind, many different legends stories developed over the years into the stories that we all know and love. Usually with princess’, animals and magic, but many of the early stories had much more mythology to it. These stories have many events for teaching lessons, morals or to intrigue your imagination. In the past the famous Grimm brothers wrote for adults and child’s pleasure creating Snow White and The Frog Prince, while Hans Christen Anderson wrote The Little Mermaid and The Ugly Duckling. Though now these tales are meant for children preferably. You may wonder where these tales come from and how the histories of these tales were made.
Many common fairy tales and morals were made from 1750-1850 during depression and hard times. During disease and war, these stories would teach people morals and increase moral in society, but myths and legends were told throughout our existence. Though you may not know it, but a few centuries ago the Grimm Brothers made these tales to depict hope, fear despair and of course grim, but why would they do this. In my opinion, fairy tales depict the real world, but using mythological creatures. These stories have wolves which depict the harsh and cruelty in life, knights and princes represent what you want to be, successful and a hero. Witch’s and stepsisters are merely the dark side of people and children and princesses are the feeling of insecurity. These tales were also very violent and horrifying sometimes, but I think that these children should be exposed to this and can cope with it either symbolizing emotional abuse or tragedy within their life. These tales are better to learn at a young age before fate creeps up on you.
We do not know exactly when the early stories were made, but they are in every culture and have a symbolic sacred meaning for depicting the origin and moral of and important figures. In ancient Greece the Greeks would make myths to worship and honor the gods of their events and achievements. These started around nine hundred B.C. when the first legends and myths were being made. Homer’s poems and Odyssey which retold the Trojan War and the journey back to Ithaca. Then many pots and vases depicted gods, goddesses and mortals. Then many more myths were found including; Theseus and the Minotaur, Perseus and Medusa and Hercules and his labors, all a significance to their culture and gods at that time. Myths also show the mystery of life, creationism, love and revenge. These stories are not merely to intrigue you but to be cherished and also being and importance to all cultures.
These tales may be harsh and violent, but all they are is a “fun” way to intrigue us and twist reality so we would learn about different customs, beliefs and to survive in life when the going gets tough. Without these stories who knows where we could be…… Aesop’s fables that teach us moral, The Grimm brothers’ tales of reality and the knowledge or cultures, beliefs and rituals in the past, proving that we must cherish these memories by passing them through generations to come.

I love this topic. I think you're right definitely in saying there is an element of truth in myths and what is perceived as impossible is just a distorted take on a reality. My friend and I recently researched into the legend of vampires and again, what seems to be impossible ( sucking blood of another human) is taken from an ancient reality of some cult or tribe or something that actually used to drink blood. People just take that little piece of information and twist it to their own version hence the sharp teeth, immortality, only come out at night stuff. It's in a human's make up to try and make everything around them into a sense that they can understand, which is why there's always research, always curiosity, and why there are so many religions and beliefs that offer an explanation to all we do not know. Myths, I think, also offer an explanation and that's why people created them-to reassure themselves that there is an explanation for what they do not know.

To shorten what Alice said, It's what men and women did before science to explain all things that happened in nature. Like, natural disasters, why there was the sun, why it rained, why animals behaved like they do, and even why humans behave like we do. All to explain things that Men and Women at the time, couldn't understand.
