So, my travel plans have been solidifying over the past few weeks.
As a Japanese citizen I get to take advantage of the travel agreements Japan has with quite a few other countries, this allows me to do something called Working Holidays.
For those who don't know, Working Holidays are a type of visa (I guess) that you can apply for, if you meet the requirements, usually citizenship and money set aside in a bank account, that allows you to live in a country for a year (vacation really, gap year type of thing) and work there.
This is perfect for low budget travel as I no longer need to save up a ridiculous sum of money to fund my travels, I can legally earn money while I'm there to cover expenses, and I don't have to go through the process of applying for visas and such.

Although I do intend to retain my permanent resident status here in the United States, as such I'll be required to stay in the US for 6 months each year, of course this can be circumvented with applications of rerturn passes or whatever, but to be safe I will remain in the US for 6 months a year.
During the time spent in the US, I intend on working a lot to cover the costs of the next working holdiay and save up money to cover the costs of my apartment.
I'm hoping to retain an apartment throughout the year so I have a place to come back to after each working holiday ends.
To minimize costs I've been looking for a roommate to split rent with. The agreement, ideally, would be that we split the rent 50-50 even while I'm gone.
Assuming we find an apartment for $1000 a month (here in Cincinnati we should be able to find cheaper, but $1000 is a good estimate) the cost would be $500 a month per person.
This would require me to save up $6000 to cover the year of rent that I will spend outside of the US.

When I am in the US I hope to pick up 2-3 part time jobs, or 2 near full time jobs at minimum wage. At current minimum wage, if I work two jobs, I hope to work a total of 80 hours per week at a wage of $8.10.
This would give me a monthly income of $2,592 before taxes. Assuming approximately 30% is deducted for taxes, I would earn $1814.40 after taxes. (for the purposes of this idea I have estimated a 30% tax, my general experiences with taxes has been around 25% taken out, but 30% is a nice estimate for security in case taxes are actually lower or are raised to around 30% of total income.)
This leaves me with $1,314.40 after deducting the rent while I'm in the US.
In order to reach the $6,000 goal I would have to put away $250 per week leaving me at $314.40 of disposable income for food and any other bills per month.
If I live frugally I believe that at that $314.40 per month I should be able to squeeze through those months.

In order to leave myself a more reasonable amount of money finding a cheaper apartment, or working more hours would be necessary.

If I were able to find an apartment for $800 a month total ($400 per person) I would need $4,800 to cover the cost of rent while I'm gone.
This would require putting away $800 per month.
$1,814.40 after taxes.
$1,414.40 after cost of rent while I'm there.
$614.40 per month left over for food and bills.

If I were to work full time (6 days of 8 hour shifts per job) with 2 jobs. This would give me 96 hours per week. At $8.10 an hour $777.6 per week. $3,110.4 per month before taxes.
After taxes (30%) this would leave me with $2,117.28.
At a pay of $2,117.28
Apartment at $500 per month (for me) -
$1,617.28 after rent while in states.
$617.28 left over, per month, after money put away in savings ($1,000).

Apartment at $400 per month(for me) -
$1,717.28 after rent while in states.
$917.28 left over, per month, after savings ($800).

Now, if all goes well this should be allieviated by the house I have inherited, if I'm able to rent it out, as well as how much money I make and actually spend while in other countries. But for now, I'm not banking on any of that.
As for the plane ticket, there has been a recent drop in prices as budget airlines are becoming more dominant. So ticket costs may not be much of an issue. If needed though, I may stay 1-4 more weeks to save more money, cutting my trip short by 1-4 weeks.

What do you guys think? Are my travel plans feasible? Is there some aspect that I'm missing? Calculation that is wrong?

Not necessarily, I found that at 96 hours per week, if I can find an apartment for roughly $800. Then money left over for each month would be at $977.28. Just under $1,000 per month which should be do-able.

I don't come on as frequently any more, rarely come on to be honest. But I feel like I should let you guys know what's going on in my life these days.
Recently, early January I want to say, my best friend Aaron, some of you may or may not know him, asked me if I still wanted to get an apartment with him at some point.
As it turns out, his grandpa is willing to rent out an apartment to us for $400 a month. It looks really nice, really close to the city downtown area. It's perfect.
Aaron and I will be splitting payments down 50/50. We eachalready have the $400 each we need. ($400 total for the down payment, $400 total for first month's rent). A total of $800 before we move in. Aaron has had his half ready for a while and I just got my half together on Thursday. Woo!
I already talked to my store and the store I want to transfer to, and it looks like it went through alright so that's already settled. So I do have a job ready for when I move in. Although it looks like the first week they have me off, so I have plenty of time to settle in and get myself acclimated to the new area.
Now I'm looking into moving my furniture, packing, getting any more furniture we might need and everyone is being extremely helpful. Offering old furniture they no longer use and such. Which I'm really thankful for.
We have a general estimate of our budget, but we won't really know until the bills start coming in and we start really spending money. Although I am considering picking up a second job if I don't get enough hours to pay my side of everything.

Now I'm focusing moreso on the financials, the packing and such is simple and easy to do. But the financials are a bit worrisome at times. I've been keeping track of expenditure for a while, recurring payments, daily payments (food, entertainment, services, etc.) but I feel that that won't be enough.
On top of that I'm unsure if I need to look into health care/health insurance and other things like that. I am looking into it, potential policies, plans, exclusions, anything that helps.

Overall, I'm nervous, stressed, and excited about this move. A step towards independence and a new chapter in my life.
I'd appreciate any advice or tips you guys have to give too. It'd really help calm things down in my mind.

Hey, Kings, I'm really proud of you. Best advice I can give is keep shit in order cleaning-wise because as soon as that falls apart it can get preeettty ugly. Also, don't be too intimidated by a new town. It's all still people, after all (hopefully). Best wishes with your future endeavors (and again super proud of you for working this hard to get where you are).

Thanks Foop, and yeah haha I know better than some that cleaning can get pretty bad if left alone for too long.
The new city has been great so far. Lots of food places nearby, a lot of stuff is walking distance. The main city, Cincinnati is just a bridge away, can literally walk there too which is amazing. We're pretty close to the Red's stadium so we'll probably be able to see the fireworks when they do those kinds of things.

So now that I've settled in to my apartment, been making friends with the new coworkers at my new store. I've been considering different career choices. I've been wanted to decide on what I want to do with my life.
I have a few different choices I'm considering:
I could continue to move up at Kroger, eventually become a customer service manager (I have the potential to be an assistant csm within 2-3 years) regardless, I'll be moving up while I continue to work at Kroger.
I could also join the Marines, which would be a tough and longtime goal. It'd take me away from everything.
I've also considered pursuing a job in the music industry. Potentially work at a record label, maybe start my own label, or one day get signed.
I'm still considering my travel plans, but I'm unsure if I really want to do that at this point. I sort of want to, but I don't feel confident in my wish to do so.

The last potential career choice is the one I'm the most unsure of, but feel strongest about. Becoming a Mental Health Specialist for Adolescents.
The reason I've considered this career for so long and feel so strongly is because I spent a few years going in and out of inpatient (the psych ward). That was during a really rough period of my life, but the people there really helped me get through it. Thinking back I only think fondly of my time spent there. A lot of it comes from the amazing people watching over us, interacting, holding group sessions, just being there for us.
I think I feel so strongly about this because a part of me wants to do that for some other teenager, help them get through the rough. Idk, this is what I may end up doing but regardless, I've been intending on taking a gap year to give me enough time to save up money and decide what exactly it is I want to do.
