Re: Don't Hug Me I'm Scared III
It's attaking religion, mainly the strict, this-is-how-you-live-your-life kind of way, not secular religion which is just generally believing in God.
It represents how very religious people, often extremist branches, can tempt members in by giving a philosophical outlook on the world. Once you draw them close enough, you get them to do some things that are questionable, but you present, "oh, well it's for or in the name of [insert philosophical outlook here] so lets keep doing it! Follow!" As it's obvious in the video, the people tempt the yellow guy into the philosophical outlook of Love and Tolerance and slowly bring him into their group and control his sex life and sexual preferences by pushing him to not only love someone, but that your sole purpose is to find that someone no matter what, and that it is guaranteed to you. Religion does this, but it's usually the extremist branches. And to prove your love and secure your future lover, you must bow and respect and follow the King of Love. Though, as you can see from the video the Tree showed the Yellow guy that the promise of love can be false. The ugly boy in the village never found love, even though the group of Love and Tolerance claimed that the boy found love and that he was happy. This attacks how religion cannot secure it's promises with simple faith and the manipulation of the philosophical outlook.
And it's not just religion, it can be any form of social sect, sub culture, counter culture, a political movement, even just a group of friends really.
In general, the DHMIS video attacks something popular in society, which is group conformity and how it can infect someone so much, they lose their individuality.
And on a side note, no, the video does not promote homophobia. I've seen that some people in the comments have been saying that. It does not. If the people decided to pair the yellow guy with another man people could easily make the case that the video promoted heterophobia.

Why did we have to make this a discussion?
I'm reminded that I should be getting over it.

Because DHMIS has been famous for expressing massive symbolism in their videos and attacking common social norms in Western society and it's down right gorgeous, perfect, harmonic, and simply majestic?
It's good food for the brain. It's awesome discussing it.

This one feels a lot tamer than the original two episodes. Anyone else agree?
