Black Ops 2 Announcement

Black Ops 2 Zombies Competitive Multiplayer, 8-Player Co-op, and More

As soon as Black Ops 2 was announced, we immediately got an influx of questions asking if the game would include zombies. Of course, the answer to that was yes, but it hasn’t stopped there..

Treyarch studio boss Mark Lamia recently told Playstation Magazine that Black Ops 2 Zombies would be a full featured game mode, and not just a mini-game like it was before.

So what does that mean? For starters, it means multiple game modes. Some rumors have been swirling that Blops 2 would have a Zombie story mode. That rumor looks like it may very well be true, and it sounds like that might not even be the end of it. Lamia hinted at competitive Zombie game modes as well, which would be a new step beyond the game mode that included only co-op.

Speaking of co-op, the number of players that can participate has now been doubled from 4 to 8. With 8-player co-op comes the need for more zombies, so the number of zombies on each map are doubling as well. Of course, that means we need bigger maps, so we’re getting those as well.

Clearly, Treyarch has been listening to their fanbase. People love zombies and Treyarch is planning on giving them zombies in droves when Black Ops 2 drops this fall. Are you more excited for the regular multiplayer modes or the zombie modes? Let us know in the comments.

It's official that Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 is to be released this year, November 13, 2012 for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC worldwide. The game will be set in the near future. That means more futuristic weapons and vehicles than we’ve ever seen in a Call of Duty game before. The campaign will take place during the 21st century version of the Cold War.

Black Ops 2 Zombies Confirmed

It didn’t seem likely that Treyarch would put out another Call of Duty game without zombies, but the lack of any mention of a zombie mode during the official Black Ops 2 announcement had some people worried.

Fret not, as Treyarch as officially confirmed that Black Ops 2 will feature not just a Zombie mode, but the best zombie mode yet.

Treyarch has given their zombie team full reign to do whatever they want with zombie mode this time around. They’re not limited by anything in the campaign, and can do what they want with it. The zombie mode will run on the game’s updated multiplayer engine, and we already know that it will include the following enhancements.

-Twice as many players
-Twice as many zombies
-New game modes

Call of Duty Zombies Could be a Standalone Game

Don’t worry folks, your Black Ops 2 Zombies aren’t at risk. Black Ops 2 will have a zombie mode (several, in fact). However, the future of the extremely popular game mode may be a bit up in the air after that. When asked, Treyarch studio head Mark Lamia was not opposed to the idea, saying “Whether it becomes a spin-off title or not, we can definitely expect more zombies”.

Zombies started as a simple mini-game in Treyarch’s 2008 Call of Duty title, World at War. They instantly became a huge hit, and they have been expanding further and further on their own since then. Almost ten months after the release of Black Ops, the game got the first zombie-exclusive DLC we had seen so far. From there, the expansion into possibly becoming a separate game has sky-rocketed, with the zombie mode in Black Ops 2 reportedly being an entirely separately developed mode with multiple game types, 8-player co-op, and competitive multiplayer.

It would seem that the writing is on the wall for zombies to break off into their own separate standalone title, similar to the way DOTA has from Starcraft. If Zombies were a completely separate game instead of just a mode within another Call of Duty game, would you buy it?

They shouldn't release it so early since it is a big game...they should wait a few more months so we can enjoy it with out bugs

Timed Exclusive Xbox DLC Will Continue With Black Ops 2

It’s not exactly the most shocking news in the world, but Treyarch just revealed at E3 that DLC in Black Ops 2 will have timed exclusive releases on the Xbox 360 just as the last few Call of Duty games have.

If you’ve been following Gamesta for news about about MW3 DLC you will recall that each piece of DLC has released at least one month earlier on the Xbox 360 than it has on the PS3. This is due to an agreement that was reached between Microsoft and Activision whereby Microsoft pays for a period of exclusivity with each DLC release. That deal has been renewed and will continue with Black Ops 2.

We’re not exactly sure how much of an affect the temporarily exclusive DLC has on buyer’s purchasing decisions, but Microsoft must feel that it’s worthwhile since they continue to renew the deal.

Check Out This Black Ops 2 Gameplay

Microsoft’s E3 press conference was pretty underwhelming this year, but if you’re a Call of Duty fan the conference did have something in it for you. The last fifteen minutes of the press conference were dedicated solely to Black Ops 2, with a demonstration of actual gameplay for the game.

The gameplay looks like pretty standard Call of Duty/Michael Bay fare, but we do get a glimpse of how the futuristic setting will open up some new gameplay avenues. In the footage you’ll see the rail gun, a first for the Call of Duty franchise, which can see and shoot through walls. The longer you charge up the shot, the more penetration it has for going through walls, pillars, etc. If sniping isn’t your thing, the campaign also affords you the option of skipping the rail gun section and going into the action guns blazing via a path choice presented to your character.
