Apparently it's not about democracy imo, and a lot of people right now seem to agree.
For example NYTimes Nobel prize winner for economics paul krugman seems to agree.

Should EU Disband?
Re: Should EU Disband?
no way, it should not. The EU was humanities first step at putting differences aside and joining as one peoples. It needs to expand, not be disbanded.

Re: Should EU Disband?
It doesn't need to disband, but should have exit strategies for countries that can no longer afford staying. I don't have much faith in what economists say, it's a lot of guesswork and blind allegiance to some philosophy or another d:

It's a good concept, it's just not working in practice because it's too bureaucratic, unbalanced etc. It needs to be modified.. a lot. Giant kinks need to be ironed out and they need to address the issue of debt and the problems it brings.

Agreed. The original basis of the EU is good, but like almost every governing body it turns to crap when some power hungry bozos weasel in.
It's just like the UN, really.
But hey, at least you got a third bailout now. Because borrowing money to pay off debts is the way to go.

you all messed up when you let small nations like greece lie about their economic sitatuons and upon finding out, refused to kick them out until they got their crap together.
that and the german conservative beuacracy which is GROOSSSSS
the EU is good, though. regions should join and regions should join together until we are all one government and humanity is finally unified as one specie.
