An 11-year-old boy has been charged with murder after he allegedly shot dead his eight-year-old neighbour and schoolmate over a puppy.
McKayla Dyer died on Sunday after she was shot in the chest outside her home in Tennessee.
The girl's mother, Latasha, told local TV station WATE-TV her daughter had refused the boy's request to play with her puppy before he shot her.
Jefferson County Sheriff Bud McCoig said the boy, whose name is not being released because of his age, used his father's shotgun.
She was pronounced dead at hospital.
Ms Dyer described her daughter as "a precious little girl".
"No matter how bad of a mood you were in she could always make you smile," she said.
The boy's family has not commented on the shooting.

Proof that background checks are as strict as they need to be, that we need to supply more kids with guns, yes, she could have defended herself had she had a 9mm on her person, more guns must be given to the masses to make things where the attacker killed someone less of an occurence, more guns, legalise bigger caliber guns so that we can make sure that we are safe from a longer distance, let us have 50' cals so that we can put one in a government drone when they decide to roll tanks down the streets. Let us have the anti-tank rifles for that matter, if the military has it why shouldn't we have it?

And according to this, cases like this aren't a new thing.

Well just because the parents are dumb doesn't mean you should ban guns.
For all I know more people die by stabbing, yet you don't exactly ban knives do you?
And if we are to get this one step further.
People dying sucks, sure.
Could it be avoided? Sure.
Would someone else still die of something not gun related? Yes.
I doubt all that many people die to firearms cause of such issues.
Wars are a different thing, don't get me wrong.
Instead of wasting all this precious time and resources into disarmament campaigns though (and it is being wasted) then why not use it for something a lot more useful, like the Actionaid campaigns and such?
