So I get told today that the Doc wants to do one more long surgery on my spine. This time he wants to graft in nerves from a patient who is terminal in an attempt to restore control of my legs. He tells me it is dangerous and I should discuss it with my family first. Well I discussed it with my family at home now I have my family here to discuss it with. There are 3 main dangers involved here.
1. Infection / spread of disease. The terminal patient has cancer, however none of it has moved into his nervous system.
2. Something goes wrong on the table and I lose control of everything from the belly button down.
And
3. The surgery works but causes nearly unbearable pain that I would have to have a morphine pump inserted to control it.
The plus is…..if it works…I can be walking again in just a few months. Walking ,feeling my feet, being able to get up. I would never be able to go back to fire/EMS, but I would be free of this chair. Tell me your thoughts…

Re: Big News FWG Family
lets look at the dangers:
1st - To me, this seems improbable but you never know. I wouldnt worry about this being too much of a problem
2nd - If you become paralyzed from the waist down, wouldnt you be in the same situation that you are in now?
3rd - this is probably the biggest thing to worry about because this means that you were better off not having the surgury.
BUT, if everything goes great and you can walk normally, imagine how happy youll be.
If i were you, i wouldnt do it unless i was absolutely sick of being in a wheelchair. Surgury creeps me out to be honest, since its not natural and is always something to worry about even if it was a success.

Don't do it!!!
The dangers are too scary...Infection, hurts... More pralization, stinks even more... And pain... big no no on my part.
So, I wouldn't do it.
But it's your choose.

if it was me, I wouldnt do it. I know that if you did it and you lived, you would be happy and walk. But if it were me, I wouldnt do it. I would rather just stay the way I am. Then again, it would be nice to walk and stuff. I dont know what to say. Just do what you think you should do. This is sad. Just, Just do what you think would be best for you. Follow your heart.
