Yeah, sorry but I can't hope to live as a sheep for the rest of my life. Releasing info indeed didn't make anyone feel better, but as some great philosopher once said, the truth is the greatest of all powers. Now, why do i prefer the truth to living as a sheep, just living my life? Because that's what I think is best. You see, the ones that you mention that "are cought", they are meant to be caught. Do you really think there is more than 1/1.000.000 chance some scandal about the US president will break out just like that? Dozens of great people I admired died either for greater economical causes, or simply because they were too dangerous, and the truth, no matter how obvious, was never let out. Eg Nicola Tesla. Free energy for the whole world. His lab accidentally burnt to the ground, he dies and all his research gone.
Oil companies should be really happy of this coincidence.
So if wikileaks were there at that time I'm pretty sure that they'd publish it.
And that's why I support their cause, so that today no more "accidents" will happen to great people, and if they do, at least we'll learn the truth today, not after 50 years.
Wikifools as you call them indeed may have no single idea of how weak the line between world peace and total chaos is, but it's in my nature i guess to be greedy for knowledge.
And as i said, you can't simply stop them. Say you destroy the entire organisation, rip off it's very foundations. What if they have information so powerful that it's the only thing that stops the authorities from catching them? What if the vast majority of people like them? What if, simply, they are part of the government like FBI for example?
We shall see. If we live that long, that is.

all they have done is:

1. Make governments realise that it is not a good idea to document everything - they will not make detailed records of things they fear some idiot will publish.
2. Make sure governments are now prepared for losers who like stealing information that is not theirs.
3. Make everything much more secretive.

the truth generally comes out in one form or another. There is no need for someone to steal a lot of documents and then publish them without thought.

Need I remind of you what happened to Bill Clinton - it did not require wikileaks for the world to find out he was getting a little on the side from an intern.

The issue is the way the information was obtained, the type of information it was, and the consequences of publishing the information (putting lives in danger in some cases).

death to the do-gooders who believe they are right in the traditional hippy way. Yay!

I would like to point out a few things.
First: Information is free. (Its a neutral statement, dont hate)
Second: The dispersal of information from the US Government Documents shows that our security of "classified" files is well under par, and should be improved instead of sitting around blither-blathering about Obamacare, Mitt Romney, and other stupid politics.
Third: Sending Assange to the USA for trial is pointless, because his harm has already been done, what can you do to remove the documentation from the interwebs? theres probably 150k storage devices with that documentation on it floating around the earth.
Finally: Assange proved one thing to me. The US is greatly lacking good security.

Secrets are often kept by the government from it's people under the pretence that it would affect 'national security'.

The truth is that governments will gladly hide things that paint them in a bad light, if they can get away with it.

The difference between Asange's personal details and the US Government's information that was released on wikileaks is that the Government is supposed to be a democratically elected body, set in place to serve it's people for the good of the people. Assange has never put himself in that position, he wasn't elected to do the job he's ended up doing. I like that he obtains this information and makes it public. It doesn't mean I like him as a person, I don't know him. But governments need to have people like Asange and the wikileaks folks keeping them in check.

If the government goes unchallenged in it's actions and decisions, it's a licence for them to do whatever they want. They serve themselves. This happens at a local council level right up to the high command.

As far as the sexual assault charges go, we end up in incredibly murky water. Firstly, it has nothing to do with his actions with wikileaks, Secondly, while he could be guilty of the act, you can also see how a government would try and smear him, in order to get him into custody over something.

To call for Asange's execution is thoroughly medieval. And whatever your opinion is on him, I'm pretty sure he's not an idiot.

Not going to read all of this, so I'm gonna tell you why wikileaks did what they did. From what I was told, Anonymous gave them the information in the assumption that it would expose secrets that needed to be exposed. They didn't do it in hostility or anything like that, but to prevent the government from doing things behind the citizens back.

Execution: sucked.
Intentions: Good.
