Actually, I rather do appreciate the thought of uniforms..
One of my friends, Benrey, was beat up at school because of the clothes he wore. The band "Hot Cross" was on his black t-shirt, with dark skinny jeans and laced up black and white checkered high-tops with chains hanging down from his pants.
A bunch of kids didn't like the fact that Benrey was getting all the attention for his atire, so they beat him up.
Uniforms indeed wouldn't express individuality, but aren't 75% of school fights started over something you are interested in that you express through choice atires? Indeed they are, A uniform would supply a drastic decrease in the amount of daily school fights, and would keep everyone equal to a certain standard.
Most people don't want uniforms because of paying to have them cleaned all the time & paying to even get them. Nor do they want to wear dress skirts with stockings and collared t-shirts with tight bow ties and tacky beige pants with dress shoes.
Its not as bad as it seems. You learn to adjust to what you and everyone else looks like.
School Uniform
Re: Debate:All schools should have School Uniform
Against. Some families might not be able to afford uniforms, and denying a child an education because they can't wear expensive clothing is obviously wrong. And as everyone before me said, clothing is as much an expression of individuality as a way to keep warm.

Re: Debate:All schools should have School Uniform
I am at issue's at both ways of this.
High School and elementary school both prepare you for the real world, that is their purpose. Some things you need to consider;
- Are we teaching kids how to deal with adversity?
- Is it proper to take away Freedom of Choice for safety?
- Will a majority of people agree with what I have to say?
- Is clothing a tool for independence or a weapon of distress?
I disagree with Uniform's, If you are unable to deal with other people's opinion's about your clothing you've already failed. If you can't stand on your own solid ground this should be the least of your problems.

Every public school in australia has to pay for the childs uniform if the family cant afford it, it is a good system and you get over the fact that you have to wear it after a while...its like working anywhere, you have to wear a uniform, if you dont like it get over it and quit its the real world...And you can still show individuality when you have a uniform they dont make you wear certain shoes and everything at the public schools, the private schools do, but at public schools all they have is a school sports shirt, formal shirt and pants...
Live life to its fullest, have no regrets and die happy
Re: Debate:All schools should have School Uniform
I've always been to uniform wearing schools - shirt, tie, blazer, skirt, and knee high socks attire.
I think it's a great idea. A while ago, we all wore our own clothes for a week to raise money for charity, and a friend of mine couldn't stop worrying about finding 5 outfits to wear - she wasn't in a good financial situation and knew she'd get bullied without popular clothing. Even on the day, everybody was looking at each others clothes, not the person...giving the reverse effect, people's personalities and how they are were blurred by what they were wearing.
However, English schools can be extremely strict with their uniform rules. We had to have a certain skirt, only one brand was allowed, it had to rest no more than 5cm above the knee, down to 5cm below (depending on the sizing on you), the socks were the same. I know it was much worse in some of the private schools in the area too. Still people find cracks in it, loopholes, and that's really what school is about, isn't it? Getting into trouble for things you're technically allowed.
oh, and I'm FOR uniform.

Re: Debate:All schools should have School Uniform
I think uniforms are OK till 10th grade. If people are allowed to wear whatever they want, basically they will exploit this advantage. Same thing happens here in India, all schools have their separate uniforms and badges and you get punished for not wearing the uniform without proper justification. Music is right, some guys can bully you over your dress, the student will tend to concentrate more on his/her clothing and comment on everybody's clothing. The only thing that is a disadvantage is that it nags you every academic year to buy a set or two of school uniforms. Like I remember when my school even had told us to wear a particular set of socks and shoes, my parents had to go and my everything. So ya, poor people have a liability over there.

We nerds rock!!!!!!!!

I guess America sucks in yet another way. My family had to pay for my uniform, which was dictated down to the type of shoes. But if there was a program to help underprivileged American kids afford uniforms, I'd be cool with it. You can be yourself and all that Disney crap on your own time.

Re: Debate:All schools should have School Uniform
Uniforms stop kids from wearing tight jeans, really short shorts, less dress code violations, and, kids don't get made fun of if they wear the same thing twice. So I agree with this.
I went to a Catholic school for 9 years of my life, we wore uniforms everyday, and only had 10 out-of-uniform days which were under strict code and mandate by the school.
This also helps you know what is a good outfit for what occasion. If you go to a job interview, you don't want to go there in ripped jeans and a sweater, you want to go there in a suit or a dress shirt and a tie.
Here in my high school (now public high school), I see kids breaking these violations everyday.
The downside of these uniforms is that they might be expensive and some low income families can't afford/pay to maintain the upkeep and buy new uniforms each year.
