The brain doesn't shrink, it grows. The wrinkles reflect an increase in
surface area. This increases the amount of neurons while not increasing the size of the brain (the skull is only so big, which is why the brain has this space-saving feature).
On whatever topic this thing has evolved into, I think the problem with today's society is that we only know what to think, not how to think. This is deeply rooted in our education system, as it rewards regurgitating information and only teaches one or few interpretations of information.
The obvious problem with teaching the material rather than the causes/effects/context is that the student does not develop critical thinking skills and cannot apply what they have learned about one situation to another situation. Rather, they must relearn every situation they come across; a highly inefficient system.
