People have died from texting for a long time now, long enough to show and tell people to not do it. Same with drunk driving. Don't do it.

Though, me agreeing with this, and Lightning Orb stating it, doesn't mean we don't care or completely disregard it as a tragedy. We just now see it as something that isn't so bad, since it could have been prevented, and like she said, it was their choice.

a neural interface with the internet should correct the problem. Keep your eyes on the road, hands on the steering wheel, and text away to all your silly friends.

Because Pie, that's why. And this is the serious discussion.

I can get even more proper and go British on ya, by saying M'lady or, Duthess or something along the lines of that. :P

I used to be afraid my friend Alex would crash ..and i'd blame myself.
I used to text him while I was in study hall and he was driving home from work.
I was like "You shouldnt text and drive" but he didnt and ..now we dont really talk much.. bad example.

yep, the idiots will never learn... no sympathy from me

A 16-year-old US girl has died on the very first drive her parents allowed her to take alone after texting behind the wheel, police say.

Savannah Nash was going to buy groceries in Harrisonville, Missouri, for her family's dinner when she careened into a semi-trailer on May 15 and died at the scene.

Local police said a lengthy unsent text message was discovered on Savannah's mobile and they believe she had been writing it when she crashed.

The teen celebrated her 16th birthday only a week earlier and state records show she received her driver's license on May 14.

The crash took place so close to her home neighbour Linda Murphy heard the bang.

"You just knew that someone had been devastated, it just T-boned that little car, there was no way they could survive," Mrs Murphy said.

"To lose your life the first time you drive (alone), that's really hard - I don't know as a parents how you survive some of these things," she said.

Friends and family gathered at the teen's school at the end of the week to honour her memory and there has been an outpouring of grief on Facebook.

"We will miss your beautiful smile, your laugh and your amazing attitude. You were always nice to me and brightened my day," a classmate posted on a Facebook tribute page for Savannah.

Another wrote: "It's truly starting to sink in, that Savannah will no longer be at her locker when we all walk by, she won't be in any of her classes to talk and laugh with us."

Local parents say the incident has been a wake up call for young people about the dangers of texting and driving.

Are you freaking serious?

A WAKE UP CALL?

I don't know, how long this has been going on? And this certain one, you people consider, "A wake up call for young people about the dangers of texting and driving"

My god.

This has been going on for years.

Eh. That comment is too vague.

It'd be hypocritical if this one adult texted while driving, and criticized others for doing the same.

But, because a group of adults text and drive, and another group of adults are against texting and driving at the same time, doesn't mean you can combine those two opinions and call adults hypocrites.

Adults aren't the same as each other. Grouping them together is a mistake.

I'm sure that there are some people who are like that, but most really aren't, and because a group of adults do act and think that way, doesn't mean they all are like that.
