Yup with an outright majority.
The representation in Scotland is quite worrying in my opinion.

As an American I'm kinda like what??

Bc didn't the UKIP party get like 5 million votes with only 1 seat, but the Scotts got around 1.5 million votes but 56 seats?? what???

like that seems wrong to me

but then my American side is like "STATES RIGHTS STATES RIGHTS STATES RIGHTS"

i think its good bc you know Scotland has a small population and can easily be suppressed by the larger population of English people. I'm not claiming they will, but with history of the formation of the United States of America, smaller states like Rhode Island got constantly bullied by bigger states of Virginia.

But then my more representative democratic side says, "well tough luck, proportionate representation"

this is all so confusing for me.

London alone has enough voters to overwhelm all of Scotland

Yeah, see! london has like 7 million people in it.

As much as it looks wrong, states rights need to be accounted and I think its good that the Scottish have so many seats to keep their state from being disenfranchised.

Okeh so Tories won, Labour, UKIP, Lib Dem leaders all stepped down.

On the subject of UKIP, I think their racistness is exaggerated. I mean, his wife is foreign after all. I'm not saying their not a little bit racist but like, it's not THAT bad, otherwise they wouldn't have managed 3,881,099 voters, over 12.6% of the population.

Having a lover of a different race or ethnicity doesn't the slightest bit deter one's racism. The biggest racist I know is my black chemistry teacher from the Virgin Islands who is married to a white woman.

It's because each constituency has it's own battle, so whichever party or candidate in that constituency has the most votes is elected as an MP for that place, i.e has one seat. So a party could easily come second in every consistency (even have the most votes!) but have zero seats/representation at parliament. It means that you often find that the main parties (Labour and Conservatives) do well but, the smaller parties like Lib Dem, green even UKIP rarely win a seat as there supporters are scattered around the country and not in the same place.

Looking at Scotland, we see that the SNP have all but three of the Scottish seats, but when you realise they didn't even have half the Scottish electorate vote for them then you can see the system can be unfair for the likes of labour and lib dems who had very high shares but only one seat.

Generally, the main party in government only ever receives 30-40% of the vote nationally but has 50-60% of the seats in parliament.

And this is the beauty of the first-past-the-post voting system. Sucks so hard.
