Debate: U.S Gun control

Now, I'm not sure if someone has already posted about this topic, but I don't really care :P

Anyways, let's get serious here, I know a lot of you have probably heard of all the gun control laws going around, banning the right to possess, sell, or manufacture firearms, ever since Columbine, Colorado, and the Connecticut shootings, gun control laws have been discussed severely. But I'm not here to inform you about these laws, only to see what you guys think of them, do you agree or disagree.

Now, I disagree, not only because I think killing and all that is horrible, but because the fact that how would people protect themselves if they were to see a home intruder, criminal, etc. etc. But also because much like the Prohibition era, gangs, criminals, etc. will always find ways to get firearms, and if they were to get a hold of them how would the public defend themselves? Now I'm sure some of you have heard the phrase: 'Guns are what kill people.' Don't believe that nonsense, it's the personnel carrying the weapon, not the weapon, plus it will always be the state of mind that the criminal is in to be willing to end someone's life. Never is it the weapon that kills, only the person.
Now before I close this off I just ask of one request, for those of you who disagree with my say in this, please don't treat me or anyone else different for their saying on this, plus, let's try and keep this discussion on the forum please. Thanks for reading this wall of text :P

Skimmed through what you said. For the most part I agree.
Things that should happen;
1: No high cap magazines.
2: Pistol magazine highest of 10.
3: No assault rifles of any kind.
4: Background checks for Guns Bought
5: Checks for when ammo is bought.
6: Saying what guns you have to a database.
7: No more then 1 pistol can be carried with you at any time.
8: No carrying (still) in banks, schools, hospitals, etc.
9: Guns should be seen if carried, not hidden.
10: Family members mental health histories are checked / person buying.

^--- Post any opinions on it...

Kind of the list of requirements for most countries on this globe when it comes down to firearms ownership.

Though the list you put on here is still liberal on the carrying compared to most countries. And a bit too harsh on number 2 (also in comparison).

There's gun control and there's absurdity. The Obama administration plans to sign something to force every American to surrender their weapons. It'll leave criminals as the only one with guns.

The plan is called the United Nations Arms Treaty.

I disagree with this gun control. I tend to look a lot at history and what it has to show for things like this. Hitler banned gun ownership, Stalin banned it, Kim Il Sung and Kim Jung Il banned it, etc. The Holocaust was made possible, in large part (not completely), to the people not being able to protect themselves.

But I'm not only looking at what history tells us. For one, the people doing the shootings are criminals. Since when do criminals follow laws? They'll break gun ownership laws just like they break other laws. That's what makes them criminals. We're not about to ban knives (people can get stabbed to death) or cars (people get killed in crashes). If a killer can't get his hands on a gun, he'll just find another way to do what he wants.

I highly agree with Mei, not only because he makes alot of sense in that, but because when the prohibition laws started back in the 1800's, people still found ways to get their hands on alcohol, same with gun control if it does happen.

Exactly.
It's not that people will not buy automatic weaponry.
It's that you ban the mediocre citizen of protecting their self with it.
It all started from a school shooting (no?) that happens every once in a while, to be honest.
But it is still considered a rare event when put up against the "unknown" gang/underground problems.
Wrong people will always find drugs and weapons.
If something can go bad, it will go bad.
Both are just simple logic.

Exactly, the world is the world, what happens happens, just restricting us from our rights makes us angrier and angrier until, Poof, we have a Civil war, again, but this time... more people would die, more destruction...

the chances of there ever being another civil war are almost zero. Should another one even come close to beginning, the US military could crush it in a matter of seconds. Having a semi auto, full auto or any other type of gun will not save you.

Americans should be happy with one gun for protection and leave it at that. If you want to play with more powerful guns, go to a gun club and use the guns in a controlled environment and leave them there.

Frook, I disagree with storing all firearms in one location.
It's been tried before...thieves took a load of guns to the black market (very much uncontrolled).

Not the best of ideas.

And there won't be civil war, if people disagree then a new government will be elected next time and the law can be changed again.
That's what we call democracy.

And that was the goal of that civil war you first had in the first place, as you didn't have democracy back then.
