Cyberbullying / Teen suicuide

Postby Blood Knight » 21 Aug 2013, 17:14

This topic is about cyberbullying / teen suicuide because of it. There's probably one on cyberbullying already, but oh well. This is the new one...

So, I had a friend tell me about this girl: ---> http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/ha ... ty-2188754 <--- Lots of people don't know that for one, this girl in all actuality trolled herself on a certain site and then commited suicuide. I find that rather amusing imo.

But, she's not the main thing on this topic. Just a mention as an example. I'm honestly asking how people can get cyberbullied. I obviously know people do, but I mean why do they let it affect them? I mean, it may just be my personality, but I've had plenty of people flame my facebook, youtube, etc, etc and it never made me think about harming myself in any sort of way, let alone killing myself. I really don't get why people don't just close the tab, delete the comment, brush it off, etc, etc? I mean come on, it's the internet, everyone gets trolled / cyberbullied at one point or another.

Now maybe that's just me, but I'm just clueless on it... Opinions?

Another question. Why does it seem to be only teens making drastic reactions to this? I'd probably say they're more susseptable to become emotionally unstable and do more drastic actions compared to the average adult.

No clue... If nothing else, why not just leave the website?

Well, like anything A Website can get addicting, A teen might get attached to a particular person or community on that website. Not all websites are safe, and once you are caught in the vicious circle of a bad influence/Website, It can make you feel insecure and bad about yourself leading to suicide. That is why it is very important Not To Date Anyone Online, and Never To Give Personal Information to anyone. Also it is important To Feel Good About Yourself and to gain confidence about your identity :D 8-)

Cyberbullying can be handled quite easy. If you're bullied, report it to a moderator and if he/she ignores you, contact a Community manager/administrator, and if he/she ignores you, contact the HEAD moderator/admin/whatevs ya wanna call it. If that doesn't work, leave the site and don't come back. But if you wanna stay on the site, contact local police(as long as you're in a state/district that enforces anti-bullying and cyber bullying laws) and get them involved. And if that stuff doesn't work, you can always publicly humiliate the mod force on their poor job and get a reason to be abused by the social site's community.

people get sucked into the internet world and forget they can turn off their computers or avoid situations where the bullying occurs. That is why sites like facebook should be banned for anyone under the age of 18. Kids are mean to one another at the best of times. It is easier for it to happen when its online.

And you don't think adults are any better?

I think it's a matter of character.
I've never had that problem because I don't listen to just anyone's opinion, especially if someone is being a jerk.
I do agree sites like facebook should be banned until someone is an adult though, they cause more trouble than help people.
And honestly, why do kids need Facebook?

Exactly, they need to live in the real world and get fundamental social skills, not be on the comp. Once you're an adult you can since you would be more or less able to detach yourself from the computer, in theory

adults can be worse, but generally they are not as bad, I would say.

No, it's just not as common as it is in teens and the youth in general. But when adults do start to bully, it's so much worse than it is in school. Even some teens can be bad too.

So, if both generations can be just as hateful and self-entitled and judgemental, would you agree on blocking sites like facebook for everyone? Just because some people can't handle it?

No.

Cyberbullying can be stopped very effectively and there's so many methods and actions people can take to avoid it.
