Defense has always been in the range of 15-25%, sometimes 30% in all countries for the longest time. When I play Victoria II, my military spending and upkeep is always around 15-25%. The highest I've ever gone was being 26%, but that was when I had a military of 2.4 million Egyptians xD Spending on stockpilling goods, Administration, education, unemployment benefits, and social security have always combined more than defense. Why? Because you're pushing everything else the country spends on against defense xD.
Countries are suppose to spend a good ammount of their budget on domestic programs and issues. That's how governments in general work.
And, now that I'm seeing it, Republicans are the ones to blame. Obama is the Head of State, he looks at what the Representatives and Senators want as a majority, not the people. Congress represents the people, President interacts with Congress.
As far as I'm concerned, ObamaCare was passed into law, so it is law. And how he must execute it and enforce it.
Even though your 57% of Americans are against it, was it 75-80%? of Americans are against the Government shutdown, and the tactic the GOP used to protest ObamaCare. The Republicans literally threw a fit that ObamaCare was passed, so they decided to take the government, the economy, and millions of workers and economic activities hostage until their demands are met, demands that they won't even negotiate. Yeah, they said they would, but the Democrats negotiated a lot with the Republicans on ObamaCare and so many other issues, and the moments Democrats say, "No, frook you, I want to pass this." All of a sudden it's a problem? And it's all the Democrats fault? Sorry, but no. First time Democrats are being aggressive, like the Republicans have all this time and you throw a fit about it. Amazing.
Now, the reason why so many people are against the Government shut down, is because it's going to cause a lot of people to die.
WIC, a program that provides food and sometimes shelter to poor women and children is not functioning anymore. A lot of people rely on WIC for food. If WIC won't work, people will start starving and then die, if this shutdown continues.
The Flu vaccines will not be handed out until the Government starts working, and flu season is just starting, no? A lot of people who don't have the money to get the flu vaccine from private health insurers, and rely on public hospitals and health to provide it, will probably get sick with the flu, and some will die without the vaccine.
Numerous economic activities have been frozen by the Government, since the shutdown happened, and a lot of corporations won't be able to do much, if this continues, causing our economy to plummet, like it did in 08-09. And who will be the blame? Republicans.
Using stalling tactics to force a country and it's government to meet your demands, or the economy and the people suffer greatly, is something called, "terrorism". Your Republican buddies, Ghost, are very fond of using that word on their enemies. Now, they have become them.
