I think it's quite logical on why Russia is reacting the way they're reacting.

Ukraine has been in Russia's Sphere of Influence for an extremely long time and they've been doing economic trade deals with each other for the longest time. the European Union tried to mess with that and offered Ukraine a spot in the EU if they worked on bringing their economy to certain standards(that every other EU member must meet before joining) and then boom Ukraine can join. But since EU is pro west and Russia would not want one of their last members of their Sphere of Influence leaving them, they put their hand down.

This wasn't the first time Russia put the hammer down on Ukrainian internal affairs. Back in 2004, there was a small attempt by the Neo-Nazi political party of Ukraine backed by the US to overthrow the Republic on the basis of government corruption. Considering the style of government that party would create, Russia stepped in and quite literally destroyed opposition and kept Ukraine's republic in place. Now, roughly ten years later, in a middle of Ukraine's economic and political crisis, the Nazi party of Ukraine(still backed by the US) is attempting to overthrow the republic and now they have suceeded. Russia, who is must be beyond livid, is now invading the country in order to overthrow the Nazi party, who has now, put the 5 most wealthiest men of Ukraine in charge of the government.

And considering, just last week Nazi Ukraine just ordered their local militia and military units in major cities of Russian-speaking Ukraine to gather up liberals, socialists, and communists, and shove them into nearby Trade Union buildings(including the workers in the buildings) to then blow up the place and kill everyone in it, resulting in the confirmed deaths of over 300 innocent people as well as thousands injured in Odessa alone, I say Russia should keep doing what they're doing.

Obviously I don't think Russia should set up a puppet regime in the country(which I wouldn't blame Russia for doing considering what happened last time), I think Germany or Finland should jump in and make sure Russia doesn't do anything radical(which they'll probably do because Putin)

If Russia was supported a coup de t'edat in Canada, or Mexico, and it succeeded, we all know America would put their hammer down and establish a new government or restore the old one. Every military power in the country has that attitude to their underlings.

I don't normally take interest in the EU elections, for I only have a slim idea on how the EU Government specifically functions, but I'll keep an eye out.

EU elections have the lowest voter turnout. Most people don't care or can't be bothered.

Actually, dunno where you are from, but living in a part of the EU, people really couldn't care less here about the decisions EU makes, and if they ever do care, its due to the media pointing stuff out.
Otherwise, nobody even bothers to search things up.

I've been to Belgium on the elections last year. They let you go into the parliament and I met a few people there and they came all the way to Belgium from all over Europe to be there

Saying a few, I imagine at most a number in the hundreds.
EU has citizens in the hundred millions.
You get my point, I suppose.

Russia must be pleased with the lovely little civil war it created.
