Alright folks,

So I know how much some of you love debating. I have a debate topic for you, one I really need help with because I'm debating it in school.
I have to argue against freedom of press; however, I am not allowed to talk about how freedom of press might pose a danger to public safety, as in publishing documents about national matters that could harm public safety (eg Snowden).
My partner and I have only really come up with that hate speeches shouldn't be allowed to be published. And that false things shouldn't be published.
Do you guys have any more suggestions, with possible concrete examples if there are any. I'd really appreciate your help D:

Fight strongly for limiting the free press.

Be very passionate and compare the US's freedom of the press and freedom of speech with Canada's. Talk about how hate speeches, misleading information (aka FOX News) and extreme religion can cause a scar on society and poison the minds of innocents who are extremely gullible. They ruin democracy and over time accumulate quite the ammount of followers that in turn, vote for people who are mean, hateful, dumb, undeserving, and extremely oppressive.

If you have limited free press and free speech, these crazy people don't affect, ruin, or scar society, and the elective bodies that run the government.

Canada, on the other hand, has limited free press. the fashion in which FOX news reports is illegal. So is MSNBC's hardcore liberal reporting is illegal for it's misleading. Also, the Westboro Baptist Church and other extreme fanatics spewing hate speech have been banned from entering Canada, for if they came in, there's a chance they can spark a stupid movement filled with hate, lies, deception, and fighting for political reforms and legislation that end up hurting, or even destroying the nation.

If you want, I can help you write some stuff if you're truly having difficulty.

Good luck in the debate. :D

Give someone or something to much freedom and they could start to abuse their fundamental right designed for the benefit of the people.
