Yep, all those muslimphobic a merry cans may now implode with this knowledge:
The Statue of Liberty, a symbol of democracy and freedom that has greeted countless immigrants to US shores, was inspired by a project representing an Arab woman guarding the Suez Canal, researchers said.
The recent findings are especially startling for some in the United States amid a heated debate over the arrival of refugees from war-scarred Syria and other Muslim majority countries.
French sculptor Frederic Auguste Bartholdi, who traveled to Egypt in 1855-1856, developed there a "passion for large-scale public monuments and colossal sculptures," said the US National Park Service, which guards the Statue of Liberty in New York.
When the Egyptian government sought proposals in 1869 to build a lighthouse for the Suez Canal, Bartholdi designed a huge statue of a robed woman holding a torch, which he called "Egypt (or Progress) Brings Light to Asia."
Workers remove scaffolding from around the torch of the Statue of Liberty, one of the world's most famous landmarks, with Manhattan skyline and the twin towers of the World Trade Center seen in the background, in 1985
The sculpture originally took the "form of a veiled peasant woman," explained Barry Moreno, who has written about the statue, as quoted by the US-funded Smithsonian Institution.
"Bartholdi produced a series of drawings in which the proposed statue began as a gigantic female fellah, or Arab peasant, and gradually evolved into a colossal goddess," added Edward Berenson, who has also written about the subject.
At the time, most Egyptians were Muslims -- about 86 percent in Alexandria and Cairo, and 91 percent in other regions, according to the Smithsonian.
Bartholdi's second chance came when French historian Edouard de Laboulaye originated the idea of a monument presented by the French people to the United States representing "Liberty Enlightening the World."
In 1870, Bartholdi began designing the statue based on his previous design. It was inaugurated in 1886.

lmao that's how it is in america is too in most of the country. in the south their textbooks refer to the African slave trade as a migration of African workers to America who wanted to come to America for economic opportunities.

the atrocities committed against India, China, Africa, and the Americas as prime examples of British history not succeeding. your empire is the worst in history for how harshly it has exploited the world and its people to feed an industrial superpower that brought devastation world wide.

it was a joke but okay your country wouldn't exist without it and neither would you but w/e
The British empire built infrastructure and government in all those countries which also would not be where they are now without it. It connected the farthest corners of the world and made unprecedented advances in economics, naval science, communication, agriculture, science, education, language, medicine, trade and navigation among many, many other things.
Yes, many people died as a result of it. However, many people were also saved because of it. Ultimately, the British empire ended the Trans-atlantic slave trade, was the main allied nation fighting in both world wars and ended countless native wars in tribal locations. Rebellions as a result of resistance to dramatic change in rule, way of life and culture. YES, many people died but you can't lump it all on the British.
I'm not saying the British Empire was perfect, but by no means was it completely terrible as you seem to think. Industrial Revolution, sucka.

MANY MORE I HAVE MISSED BETWEEN
And now in the 21st century we come to the Raspberry pi, a computer that you can hold in your hand, and another form of the element, carbon, aka Graphene.
All these range from the 17th to the 20th century, a lot of British empire in there.
To say the British empire only brought pain and death is like saying Columbus didn't discover America because he committed genocide. A string of horrible acts doesn't erase the impacts of multiple great acts, or one in Columbus' case.

"You have to pass on the torch sometime, just make sure it's a light and not a disease"
Re: Statue of liberty inspired by Arab woman
Well if you wanna play like that, the reason the British empire ever existed was because of a random screwup on some random ape's gene line.
It's totally random. You could've had freaking France be the main empire here had Napoleon win everything. It just didn't happen. Just because history is a mashup of random events and all.
I don't say the Brits weren't that cool an empire, I'm just saying they were the second worst one, since Byzantium one (which I hate even if it were an empire).
Ofc they made advances on science, since they were at war with everyone and war required them to be so.
Either way on the topic at hand:
How's Texas taking these news?
Tbqh I do find it sorta meh, I mean a symbol of whatever (in this case liberty, ironically) is of insignificant origin.
I mean look at all the US guys worshipping a middle eastern dude born in 0BC because reasons
That's not mentioned anywhere is it?

lol just bc you existed and created a portion of my country doesn't mean anything.
Modern day society wouldn't have existed if Nazi Germany didn't rise to power and drove America to become a super power and essentially cause the state of the world today, affecting your ancestors' choices and you probably wouldn't have been born either. Any slight change of history drastically changes the chance of so many people existing.
should we all be indebt to Nazi Germany now? And thank Nazi Germany for existing?? hell no.
what a horrible concept to excuse the damage Britain has done to this world.
and btw, Potato, starting the Industrial Revolution, the event in history that is now causing Earth to decay is not something you should be proud of lmao
