YET another terrorist attack in Europe

Postby Flobalob » 25 Jul 2016, 01:25

BBC News wrote:An explosion in the German city of Ansbach, near Nuremberg, has killed a suspected bomber and injured 12 other people, three seriously, police say.

They said a man - "according to our current knowledge the perpetrator" - had died in the blast.

The intended target was not clear but about 2,000 people have been evacuated from a nearby open-air music festival, the Bavarian interior ministry said.

It is third attack in the state of Bavaria in the past week.

A shooting rampage in Munich on Friday left nine dead while an axe attack on a train a week ago in Wuerzburg injured several people.

The explosion happened shortly after 22:00 (20:00 GMT) in, or close to, a wine bar that was near the entrance to the music festival, German media reported.

What's the deal with all the terrorist attacks? That makes four in what, a week and a half?

And what's the deal with the last three being so.. strange. I mean, neither this nor the train attack actually killed anyone that wasn't the terrorist themselves, and the Munich shooting only (and I use "only" comparatively) killed 9, which for a shopping mall shooting is luckily really low.

It just seems like three attacks in the same place within a week that comparatively did very little damage makes no sense. I mean, why wouldn't organized terrorist organizations encourage supporters to target important national infrastructure (there's a UK port with worryingly lacking security [6 guards total] that, if damaged, would halt operations and cut 90% of UK trade), or national monuments? - something that would have a lasting economic or emotional effect? Terrorist attacks are so common these days that, outside of the city they take place in, they're forgotten within a week.

Look at this chart, check for yourself how many of the last 15 European terrorist attacks you can recall and describe simply by their date and location:

Now try it with the dead/injured tolls added:

Now try it with the means and perpetrators added:

I don't know, it just seems to me like.. they're not very good at being terrorists. That might be a controversial opinion, but fact is the whole point of terrorism is to instill lasting fear. Clearly that's not worked, because I couldn't even recall the one here in the UK until I opened the description box.

Yeah, I know they've been encouraging "soft target terrorism" but frankly that scares me a lot less than if my house suddenly went dark because they blew up a power plant. Is it just me?

It's probably a convenience and ease thing. Going into a public area and blowing yourself up/firing into a crowd/driving into people requires a lot less planning than researching a power station that will effectively disrupt a large area for a long period of time, researching weak points and areas to place bombs to damage the power station and going in to carry out the plan without being caught or alerting any authorities.

The effort of spending weeks planning an attack on a power station with the high probability of failure is wasteful. Furthermore, there will be heightened security in these types of areas after an attack so carrying out the plan again wouldn't work.

If a public attack fails or doesn't do as much damage as intended, it is a lot less costly because it doesn't necessarily require weeks of planning and training.

Don't worry though, our new secretary of foreign affairs will stop them in their tracks.

Yeah but the fact that there hasn't been one of the sort? Immingham port in Grimsby generates around a quarter of UK rail freight and handles 100 million tonnes of the UK's annual total 500 million tonnes of cargo.. and it has a security team of 6. 6 people. They rely entirely on intelligence gathering.

Seriously, if terrorists did their research they could cause so much damage.

Also gotta keep in mind that IS probably don't have us as their priority. They're taking heavy losses in Syria and Iraq

http://www.independent.co.uk/voices/after-the-recent-battles-in-syria-and-iraq-how-close-is-isis-to-losing-the-war-a7016961.html

So they probably haven't done anything major like attack a power station because the majority of their focus is fighting a losing war which is why the frequency of attacks has increased recently because they're getting desperate and are trying to cause as much terror in a short period of time without the need for extensive planning.

Europe is just becoming middle east, ofcourse

Ofcourse they target civilians, and it doesnt HAVE to work

You just noted that there were 4 happenings in a matter of days

Imagine this keeping up for EVER.
Dont you think that people will become afraid of everything?
Being afraid to go into a night club if youre gay, for example

The UK lads here will NEVER appreciate how much their asses have been saved by this crapstorm, oh well

Why not go after huge powerplants etc? How could they. Most of them are ISIS related, and they dont have enough skill or experience apparently to target anyone armed.

Also, why get on the nerves of governments that actually increase the flow of refugees steadily?
You really should hope they do something big (extreme example given, destroying eiffel tower) so that the politicians actually bother to address this issue head on.

inb4 le pen gets elected in France 2 elections from now.
Calling it.
