Obama for the win. He seems like the first president in a while to give a darn-toot about his country, and not just his class.
The amount of debt the country is in is unavoidable, the economic crisis means that whoever was in charge was going to have to pick up the tab. He wants to help out the poorest in society and that is no bad thing. In a world where the poor still pay more proportionally than the rich he seems to be a force for good.
I'm not even American, but he's the furthest left you guys are ever going to get, and I take my hat off to the guy. Plus he slagged off our new PM, and our new pm is quite frankly, a posh, rich twat who knows nothing about the people below his stratum in society. If it wasn't for England wrongly thinking he was a sound guy we wouldn't have him in power.
NEVER TRUST A TORY. They're almost as bad as republicans.
Left of centre, we're having a party when Thatcher dies!!

1. I'm a devout Christian, and when people say things like "as a Christian, I believe same sex marriage and abortion are wrong." I wonder, what bible are you reading? I don't mean to offend anyone, but where does it say that?
2. Mintyfresh, republicans are people too. Usually. But it does seem like we've been a little bit too far right. Obama is doing an ok job so far, I'd just rather have an administration somewhere in between bush and obama.

Re: Obama and other political things...
not that I should but I will express my view on politics.
Economics:
let's not forget that the complaints come from the conservatives who are responsible for the deficit. It is a normal thing in the history of the US that the democrats have to clean up all the accounts and work away the deficit and the conservatives spend it all when it goes good.
We've seen it in the 90s, Clinton had to clean up the deficit of Bush sr., now we see it today that Obama started his term with a couple of billion in the red.
As an economics student I damn well know that to not get the economy to a full stop you got to increase public spending, that is the only choice Obama has, the rates are too low so a financial intervene with an increase of public spending like in the Clinton-greenspan model are out of the question.
The only option left for Obama is to increase public spending, obviously causing more deficit but history has shown us that the economy picks up after with a multiplicator effect and the deficit decreases
So all I can say is: give it time.
Same sex marriages:
I'm pro same sex marriages, I respect their choice and they should be allowed the same rights that a normal straight married couple gets in terms of tax, inheritance and all the other rights and duties a married couple gets because they're married for the law.
(This has nothing to do with religion whatsoever)
Abortion:
Bit of a dodgy point.
I best not go into it too much as it would lead us into technicalities that you would not yet understand.
All I'm saying is that if and when everything is well regulated and there is proper guidance it's ok depending the circumstances, but that is what needs to be regulated and guided.
@munty:
Cameron isn't Tatcher, he is a tory, but he has some social points as well.
And if he goes too far the lib-dems will keep him in check and I reckon that they're just going to take a few measures to take the country out of crisis, maybe change the election process a bit and go straight to new elections.
