a topic we should discuss

Postby Tycoon » 29 Jul 2014, 17:55

In no way is this topic made to discriminate, it's made to draw attention to something - I'm not discriminating against genders!

Let's discuss rape culture...

Songs like this one promote it:

as do video games, and media, and social networking.

Your opinions?

I'm going to say that there are fewer male feminists indeed, that's hound not get a reason to come with it and please do not retort with one. I believe I shall, in a while in the future. Maybe once I get the time in a few years. I will take a camera, and I will simply walk about my local area and ask people. And I'm going to make it an equal amount of boys and girls. And I'm going to ask them their opinions on feminism. Along with a few other questions relating to the subject. A wee experiment if you will. To see what it's like here.

Also, one last thing to bring it through, I think feminism should be officially renamed to equalism. The very word 'feminist' if what all it says is true. Then it kind of puts the movement at the lowest possible place to start. Not even Richard Branson could properly advertise feminism. Though perhaps the neutrality of equalism. Would also cut out the thoughts that it was seeking for women's superiority over men, and even be able to fit the LGBT community into it. Along with all the ethnic groups. Either that or anti-discrimination would be a good place.

Feminism used to be communism, you know. You should model yourselves after Clara Zetkin and Rosa Luxemburg.

Equalism makes you seem like a communist. Unless you're not for equality in every aspect of society, or you just want to focus on gender equality, why not call it, ehr, gender equality?

And, when people call each other pussies, it's not reference to female genitalia. It comes from the Latin word, pusillanimous, which means coward or timid. The English adopted the word and over time shortened it to become pursy or purse (puhr-see). As accents developed and the language spread (colonization and empire) the word became to be known as pussy in reference to cats who were very scared or reluctant to communicate to humans. And now we think we are talking about the female genitalia because some perverted idiots thought female pubic hair = cat hair and yeah.

I have nothing against Laci Green, I like her a lot, I just don't like it when some people try to overstretch certain ideas and concepts to fit their own when it wasn't originally that.

Shadowstar allow me to get extremely off topic here and inform you that no matter how much you like communism it was still a dictatorship.
Its official name is dictatorship of proletariat and you really don't want to link feminism to that.
Well you do know your Latin though, nice.

I like the ideas and concept of fighting for equality and civil liberties and economic rights it proposes. Not so much of a big fan of the dictatorship. Socialism fights for the ideas through a democracy or elective body and if there is not one present, then they will protest for one. communists are too tired for the establishment's crap so they go for revolution which leads to opressive dictatorship (which is a no no)

I just use communism because American communism were pacifists who sparked almost every civil and economic rights movement in this country since the industrial revolution except for the black rights movement. So I call myself a dirty commie

I'm officially withdrawing myself from any arguments involving women, discrimination against women, and anything about gender roles. It's seriously getting out of hand and this is testimony to it.

“When a 16 year old girl in Ohio was filmed being raped by two boys at a party
CNN reporters talked about how tragic it was
because the rapists could have been star athletes
Because God forbid we lose a future football star
over something as silly as forcing oneself onto an unconscious girl
right?
You say that victims of sexual assault were asking for it
But was that 8 year old girl asking for it
When you told her you would give her a ride home?
Did her overalls provoke you?
Isn’t it awful we live in a world where 1 in 5 women
Have been sexually assaulted
But only 3% of rapists spend even a day in jail.
That is rape culture.
You say that a woman is “cold”
Because she didn’t like him kissing her neck,
but when he refused to stop
it’s considered his “natural behavior”.
That is rape culture.
You say that men who are victims of rape are “weak”
But tell that to former U.S. Marine
James Landrith,
Who was raped at the age of 19.
That is rape culture.
Thinking that sexual assault
Against women is “the norm”,
That is rape culture
Rape culture is a Lawmaker from Maine
Saying that if a woman has the right to abortion
Then a man should have the right
To use his superior strength
To force himself on a woman
It is the boys in my class laughing at this poem
And the word “rape”
Being their favorite joke.
Rape culture is believing that a woman can’t become pregnant
As a result of rape
When actually 32,000 women in the U.S.
Become pregnant from rape every year.
So maybe we should stop saying
“Boys will be boys”
and “She was asking for it”
And start teaching men and women
To not rape.”

rad poem I found on tumblr
that was dramatic. still ready 2 die tho!
