Duolingo

Postby Avereeni » 20 Sep 2014, 16:01

Would you like to learn a language easily without struggle?

Would you like to master the arts of speaking French, German, or any other language?

I've got just the site for you!!!!!!

Duolingo is a site that lets you learn new languages for free, with no charge at all. You can choose which languages you want to learn, and they provide you with lessons that aren't that hard.

Please note that new languages are being patched right now, and will be released in the future.

Advanced learners can take a test if they've mastered the language they are learning.

There are also courses that are specially designed for your language. If you speak another language only, it will provide something along the lines "English for Japanese Speakers", etc, etc.

So far, here are the languages that have been released. I will upload more that will come out in the future

Spanish
French
German
Italian
Portuguese
Dutch (Netherlands) (In Beta)
Irish (In Beta)
Danish (In Beta)

Also the languages that are being patched right now

Hungarian (95% Done)
Swedish (91% Done)
Turkish (87% Done)
Russian (40% Done)
Polish (7% Done)
Romanian (6% Done)

Lingots

'A lingot [ling-guht] is the Duolingo virtual currency. The more you learn on Duolingo, the more lingots you'll receive and be able to use in the store! They can be earned through:

Leveling up: Earn 1 lingot (multiplied by level reached)

Finishing a skill: Earn 2 lingots for finishing a new skill

Full hearts: Earn 1 lingot for finishing a lesson with full hearts

10 day streaks: Earn 1 lingot for every 10 days on a streak (1 for 10, 2 for 20, etc)

Inviting friends: Invite a friend to Duolingo and, if your friend accepts, you both will
receive 1 lingot

Uploading documents: Upload a document to Immersion, and receive 1 lingot every time someone upvotes your document

Note: Lingots are not awarded when you use a tree shortcut to level up or finish a skill

Here are things you can unlock with Lingots

Power Ups:
Heart Refill : Heart Refill allows you to gain one heart lost during a lesson.

Streak Freeze : Streak Freeze allows your streak to remain in place for one full day of inactivity.

Double or Nothing : Attempt to double your five lingot wager by maintaining a seven day streak.

Practice:

Timed Practice : See how well you do in practicing your skills against the clock in Timed Practice.

Language Progress Quiz : Take an extended language quiz to measure your language learning process.

Bonus Skills:

Idioms : Learn how to say "It's raining cats and dogs" and other idioms in [preferred language].

Flirting : Do you believe in love at first sight? Learn some [preferred language] pick-up lines.

-------------
Immersion
-------------

The immersion section is where you translate other's documents into English to give yourself a real challenge! You can also make your own document and get upvotes and downvotes depending on how good it is.

----------------

Anyways, Duolingo is a fun site to use! I will post more information as it comes.

Happy learning!
