Yes it is indeed true! Hoverboards are in the works! A couple from Los Gatos, CA has worked together with a team of scientists to develop the world's first hoverboard. The prototype aired in the video is their 18th one and it looks neat as hick heck! You can see the video and fund their kickstarter here. They're already reached their 250k goal but a little more couldn't hurt now could it? Isn't this the coolest thing? I love science.
that was dramatic. still ready 2 die tho!

Hoverboards are cool and all but here's the lowdown:
The hoverboards only work on a specialized surface. They have a quickly dying battery life, and they made EXTREMELY loud noises when being used.
Also, Hendo plans to use the money not for hoverboards really but for improving foundations for earthquakes--It's just a publicity stunt.

I still see it saying only about a Hover Park. Meaning you can only use them for showing off. Meaning they will be totally overpriced and unavailable to not wealthy people. Meaning they will probably not get used for a looooong time

The science isn't new. It's been around for quite a while. Anyway, this is a hoverboard, but not the hoverboard everyone has been waiting for. I mean, unless you pant to pave roads and sidewalks with copper or something like that. Looking around, this looks to be real, and the science behind the idea seems to be real. Apparently these boards use the same technology as Maglev trains. And, the company is in fact building their "hoverboards", but their ultimate goal is to push Maglev tech to housing. Creating levitating houses, or at least an emergency system to levitate houses in times of things like Earthquakes.
So yeah, this isn't the Hoverboard I've been waiting for, this isn't the Hoverboard a lot of people have been waiting for. Just another thing to taunt us. Except this time, it's not a prank. It's just not what we hoped it was :/

+1 It's a shame that we won't get Back to the Future hoverboards anytime soon, but at least this is showing progress. And I hate to rain on the hoverboard parade, but it's better to know the truth early on than be disappointed by it later.

And don't forget that other part where if it does get pushed into housing it'll be another 20-30 years cause the cost will be toooo high
