I went to see the new film Mad Max: Fury Road today, and firstly what I can say is. It was one of the best films I have watched recently, great action sequences, a strong cast (even if Max himself was a bit heartless at times) and a very positive direct, and indirect message which is very empowering to women, then I came across this article which details the reaction of an MRA who displays his dismay on the strength of the second (or first since she got more dialogue than Max) main character Furiosa. (personally I believe the whole female cast was very strong as well.)

"(The Hollywood Reporter)A well-known "men's rights activist" blog is calling for a boycott of the postapocalyptic film "Mad Max: Fury Road" for being a "feminist piece of propaganda posing as a guy flick."
Author Aaron Clarey admits he has not seen the film yet, but his self-proclaimed "spidey sense" noticed that Charlize Theron "talked a lot during the trailers" for the film, and he said Tom Hardy only seemed to have cameo appearances. "Charlize Theron's character barked orders to Mad Max," writes Clarey on Return of Kings. "Nobody barks orders to Mad Max."
Clarey did not like reading reviews commending Theron for many of her action scenes, nor did he appreciate the news that the movie's director, George Miller, asked "Vagina Monologues" author Eve Ensler to consult with the five actresses who play sex slaves in the film. (Theron's character plays a road warrior fighting to lead the child-bearing women to safety.)
Clarey writes that he is concerned "men in America and around the world are going to be duped by explosions, fire tornadoes, and desert raiders into seeing what is guaranteed to be nothing more than feminist propaganda, while at the same time being insulted AND tricked into viewing a piece of American culture ruined and rewritten right in front of their very eyes."
Cannes: Is 'Mad Max' Oscar-worthy?
The movie -- like the original "Mad Max" trilogy -- was filmed in Australia and is directed and co-written by Miller, who is Australian. ("Fury Road" was also filmed in Namibia and South Africa.)
Clarey feels Hollywood and Miller tricked him by making a movie that "visually looks amazing."
"Let us be clear. This is the vehicle by which they are guaranteed to force a lecture on feminism down your throat," writes Clarey. "This is the Trojan Horse feminists and Hollywood leftists will use to (vainly) insist on the trope women are equal to men in all things, including physique, strength, and logic."
He calls for a boycott:
"So do yourself and all men across the world a favor. Not only REFUSE to see the movie, but spread the word to as many men as possible. Not all of them have the keen eye we do here at (Return of Kings.) And most will be taken in by fire tornadoes and explosions. Because if they sheepishly attend and Fury Road is a blockbuster, then you, me, and all the other men (and real women) in the world will never be able to see a real action movie ever again that doesn't contain some damn political lecture or moray about feminism, SJW-ing, and socialism."
The blog the post is published on is known for trolling feminists. Its "about" page, for example, says, "Women and homosexuals are prohibited from commenting here. They will be immediately banned." The article has received more than 2,000 comments. One commenter wrote, "Women and feminists in general have without a doubt, proven that they are dysfunctional by nature and cannot be trusted with anything. And this movie helps to prove it."
Cannes: 'Mad Max's' Tom Hardy says he owes director George Miller an apology
"Initially, there wasn't a feminist agenda," Miller said while promoting the movie at Cannes. "I needed a warrior. But it couldn't be a man taking five wives from another man. That's an entirely different story. So everything grew out of that."
Theron said she was happy to take on the role of Imperator Furiosa "to celebrate everything there is about being a woman, and not trying to put women on a pedestal, but being surrounded by other women in a story that was just real."
Clarey is what you call. A disgusting human being.

Re: MRA Boycott Mad Max: fury Road
he's basically complaining about an action movie with a relentless female character ordering people around and that hurts his ego bc he's only comfortable with action movies with a relentless male character ordering people around.
MRA only hates women when they take charge and break gender norms or violate the patriarchy.
If they stay in their lane and have sex with them when they're nice, make them sammiches, and respect their video game addiction then everything is okay.

Whoa that's some hasty generalization there buddy
Let's specify something. If man-hating "feminists" are not to be considered feminists, what are woman-hating "MRAs" supposed to be considered? Eeeexactly. Now, I'm not taking a side here, but when I see blatant, and i mean b l a t a n t, hypocrisy, I draw the line

Uuuuh, also it was a good film in general with great special effects? Anyone?
On a more serious note I will say that MRA does have some biased to like, a new degree of biased opinions.

the whole MRA thing is a joke. They're ignorant bigots who focus their attention on the most ridiculous things.
You know what men's rights activists should really be fighting for?
Ending gender discrimination where men are not allowed to cry or show emotions. They should fight that.
Ending the gender norm that it is wrong and girly for men to explore fashion and hair styles and choice of expression that is not "manly enough" bc apparently what makes you a man is not what is in your brain, but what is on your skin.
MRA should be fighting for the end of the gender norm that men don't know how to take care of a house, but a woman does? Those bs commercials make me so mad, even in normal movies too.
MRA should fight for the recognition that men who get raped are victims too, and it is not an attack on their masculinity and it is not their fault. Especially in prison.
MRA should point out that gender norms hurt men so much more than women, simply because more males commit suicide than woman. Why? Because male gender norms are confined to a simple, fragile, easily breakable thread that if you ever hop off that thread of normal, manly, masculinity, then you're a fag, or a pussy, or a girl, etc. Screw that. The psychological damage I have seen some of my own friends go through, simply because they wore something wrong and all of their friends called them a fag, or told them to choke on a dick. Like wow why do we have to put guys through that??
They should also fight the discrimination against men in court cases of child custody because apparently women take care of their kids better, regardless of income? Bs.
MRA should be fighting for trans mens rights and recognize that they are men as much as any other male out there. they should fight for their recognition of support of their rights.
the MRA should fight for an open and respectable exploration of male sexuality. Creating a social environment where men should not be ashamed of their sexual preferences or overall sexuality.
Oh and how the draft is directed at men mostly, but not women??? Excuse me that is a lil stupid and discriminatory against men. Women should be able to be drafted alongside men.
But no, they don't do any of this. They would rather complain about women taking charge because apparently that is bitchy. They would rather complain about women who do not respond to their creepy flirting. They would rather complain about a woman who will not have sex with a man, even when the man is nice. Because THESE are OBVIOUSLY the issues men face as a problem.
All the real problems men face, feminism covers and fights for. I mean, Mexico just had a supreme court hearing a couple months ago about male discrimination with child custody and when that happen, Tumblr exploded with all the feminists applauding Mexico.
The MRA is a complete joke.
The equality of both sexes and genders have been fought for by feminists. To believe in gender & sex equality makes you a feminist. That is the very definition of the movement and the name. From Seneca Falls in 1848, to the International Women's Working Day in 1911, to the Russian Revolution, to the overall civil disobedience movement in the USA from the 1950's-1980's, feminism has been sourced as the movement and ideology that fights for the equality of both sexes.
This "meninist" crap is a joke. A pathetic joke. Defending this ill-minded movement is like defending fascism.

Re: MRA Boycott Mad Max: fury Road
3 things.
1)First of all the movie was mostly stunts, not special effects that's why it got rated so highly, cause unlike CGI crapfests these days (eg avengers) this movie shows people how action movies are made.
2) this movie was so good that morons like that criticizing it can only get more people to watch it, which is good.
3) I'm quite sure that max going 1 v 6 on some chicks who(except furiosa) ADMIT IT were there for the eye candy alone and overpowering them, or that the death count on protagonist characters was like 10 women to 1 guy, does not make this film feminist.
This film is a normal action film with just a female lead as strong as a male lead.
Just because that's RARE in recent action movies does not mean that this film is feminist, its just normal.
If you want a feminist approach go watch alien series, sigourney weaver kicks some serious male and alien butt in those.
Also the MVP for me in that movie was the guitar guy. Best action movie I saw in the past 10 years, will look forward to next 2 sequels

"my movement should be taken seriously"
I don't think I've ever taken ownership or any possessive traits over the feminist ideology of sex and gender equality. I advocate it and its ideas. But yes, I do think the movement of sex and gender equality should be taken very seriously bc i hate gender discrimination, illogical expectations based on gender and the patriarchy.
"other movements i disagree with shouldn't be taken seriously"
I disagree with capitalism but I have acknowledged it before and I acknowledge it now as an incredibly important and arguable economic theory. I mean, sure, I "debunk" it from time to time, but when I get angry at capitalism, I get angry at corrupt and manipulated capitalism evolving into Imperialism and Fascism, not the actual basic concepts of produce based on demand, or the exchange of goods in a controlled market.
Now, what I said in that post, and what I've said in other posts in other topics, is that movements that are destructive, hateful, and hold no basis should not be taken seriously because their founders didn't take the time to come up with debatable economic and political essays with sources. The foundations if fascism is propagated garbage aimed at excusing dictatorship and its crimes while scapegoating any minority the cultural elite can get their hands on. Meninism is a stupid, ill-based movement trying to focus on re-imposing bs gender norms and subjugating women who don't abide by what 2000s movies have made young boys believe that if you're nice to a girl then she'll go out with you and if she rejects you, she's stuck up.
"Honestly, I could not care less, but at least be as open-minded as you claim to be."
I'm pretty open minded?? I'm sorry I am officially denouncing a hateful movement aimed at keeping gender norms. I don't tolerate horrible, disgusting, ill-based movements that aim to constrict the populace to a certain standard of living, thinking, and self expression.
"btw you sound just like people who bash on feminism"
I think a lot of people on here can agree that I am probably the top member, along with Tycoon who has promoted feminism and defended its ideas on this website. Bringing people to light on the gender discrimination men face is a feminist thing for feminism is about gender and sex equality and attacking aspects of society and culture and government that impose illogical gender discrimination is quite the feminist thing to do. But oh, promoting feminism actually makes you sound like you hate feminism simply bc we've all been told that feminism has been purely about female liberation.
This just in, guys, according to Fui's logic:
promoting the empowerment of the proletariat means you hate socialism and that you're a capitalistic pig.
promoting imperialism and the subjugation of lesser nations based off of the notion that they cannot defend themselves means you hate fascism and that you're a democratic spineless jellyfish.
promoting the idea that society should be divided into Capitol and the Masses and that the Capitol owns the means of production in order to 1) supply demand, whether needed or not and 2) employ the people means that you hate capitalism and you're a socialist hand out.
promoting the concept that God distributes his authority through Kings and Queens with guidance by religious clerks means you hate monarchism and you're republican trash.
promoting the concept of a modernization of Greek democracy by editing the concept of a monarchical state to fulfill the people's control over government means you hate classical liberalism & republicanism and you're a monarchist.
Thank you for the enlightening comments!!
