I saw this picture yesterday or the day before.
I think that the picture shouldn't have been made.
It IS disrespectful to the sacrifices made my American soldiers. You do not take a symbol like that, and mess with it like that.
To me right now, it looks like the guy who created the photo is trying to paint those outraged over this photo as people who were against gay marriage. Who are just mad aboot the gay marriage decision and want someone to pick on over it.
That is not the case, in every situation that I'm aware of, that the iwo jima picture was adapted like in this case, it has recieved heavy criticism, backlash. It's not aboot how the image was adapted. It's that the image was adapted in general.

this, pretty much. i was too tired to post on it last night, but yeah, as someone who knows/is related to veterans, i can see the outrage on having an image that represents actual war being adapted like this
vaguely present

why do gay people have to not wear shirts? Is this a gay thing or what? Also, I see not issue with the picture transformation.

There's no issue with the image (duh) but i don't really see the point either.
I mean it's obviously made just to piss people off, no other real purpose

people make parodies of things every day. i don't see why this is such a problem honestly.

a merry cans take their war heroes seriously and probably don't like seeing parodies like this. In all honesty, a significant number of the war heroes must of been gay.

This is such a problem because this parody has been seen as completely disrespectful to the marines that died to raise that flag.
The "parody" picture is being viewed as a picture comparing the struggle of gay marriage, the lgbt community, whatever it is the picture was meant to symbolize, to the struggle of the marines who raised the flag in iwo jima.
They struggle of homosexual people does not compare to the struggle of those marines. People died for that flag. Quoting one of the commenters, "The U.S. Marines who hoisted the United States flag over Iwo Jima's Mount Suribachi in 1945 were met not with applause, but with a volley of rifle fire and hand grenades thrown by Japanese soldiers who were just a few yards down the other side of the hill".

yeah exactly
we hypercentralize around all of the people that have died for this country, but we don't recognize them if they're gay or black or women, i mean look at all the textbooks.
1.5 million slaves died creating America how it is, but get no patriotic recognition. couple presidents and many, many US soldiers who have done good were gay but oh no don't recognize them, cover their sex life and refuse/take away all of their medals and achievements. oh women??? lets just write biographies of their work and honnor them on a microscale 100 years later, that solves EVERYTHING!!!!!!
people who get outraged at this is just having their internalized homophobia come out. i mean if u get mad at this and actually like gay people, then you're just tolerating us, not actually accepting us.
i showed this picture to my grandfather who fought in the vietnam war and he was proud of the picture and how far gays have come. he posted it on facebooobs later and tagged all his military friends and a lot of them liked it and commented on it saying positive things.
i mean i just hate it when someone uses the excuse ' OH MY RELATIVE WAS A VET THIS ENRAGES ME BC UR ATTACKING VETS OR PARADOZING THEM OR NOT TAKING THINGS SERIOUSLY!!!!" like go to ur vet family memeber ask them how it feels
i remember when i first critized the vietnam war and said it was pointless and we did so much wrong and my family was like YOUR GRANDFATHER FOUGHT IN THE VIETNAM WAR U ARE DISRESPECTING HIM and when my grandfather found out what i said he was like "yeah that place was a hell hole what we did to those people were horrible and i regret it every day" and they all shut up
but no this picture is worthy and i actually like it. it shows that gay people are just as american as anyone else.
