I feel like the design is a little bright for my eyes.
There should be like an option to change it to night mode.
I actually spend most of my time here in the night or in a dark room.
This might also help those who have sensitive eyes.
I don't know if this has been suggested or discussed before.
Dark/night mode on forum and/or chat.

I would suggest getting a browser add on for that, or finding a browser that has a night mode built in, like dolphin. There is no need to add that to the chat when individual users can solve it by themselves.

Any suggestions that also support this site, since I'm using chrome and most ad-ons doesn't.

Well if you're on mobile, try the Dolphin browser. It has a built in night mode that really helps with night time browsing. The only catch is that it does not work on ads. This browser also supports Flash player, so you can play some games that require v10.2 or less to play. However, if you are using a desktop, I don't think I can help you out there. Try turning down the brightness settings on the monitor itself. Hope this helps!

could make various alt themes for the forum but most probably not the chat (unless there'd be some kind of switch for it)

If this feature were to be implemented, how would one go about designing the mechanism to turn off the lights? Would it be a simple flip switch? Or something along the lines of pulling a string, like the chain on a ceiling fan? Or maybe perhaps a Clapper for elder chatbox users, who cannot be able to get up to go to either of the previous options, and turn it off themselves? This is an issue I would like to debate.

Is there not a way to have users choose between personal forum backgrounds or is that not possible on this site?
