I partically agree on the media thing that Shad said. She would've just stayed in New York performing at nightclubs, and parks, except, people DID care about her. A couple celebrities, Usher, Jesica Parker and Melanie Fiona knew Gaga when she was in New York, and did listen to her then. So, a lot of people did know about her before she became big.
EDIT: Also, Shad, if it weren't for the media, countless things wouldn't have happened. Most, if not all artists today wouldn't have been found.
Exactly. That is why older bands/artists were better. Because if you wanted to be known in the 60s or 70s (when 1 out of 3 people was in a band (figure of speech, but you get the idea) then you had to be not just great, excellent.
