For your info, lady gaga is said to have taken her name from queen's "Radio Gaga". She was greatly influenced by queen, and wanted to be just like freddy, most say that's why she plays the piano, instead of just singing.
That is true. But when typing it in, like i said before, the auto-correct changed "Radio" to "Lady" and decided to stick with that. Most artists today, if not all are influenced by an artist or more. Most Pop artists are influenced by other artists like Madonna, Queen, Gwen Stefani, Micheal Jackson, and some more. Some artists may do stuff based off of another artist, but change it up to suit themselves and their style. It's kinda expected, since Modern music wasn't the first Generation of music.
Also, i love how you compare a picture of Lady Gaga before she was famous, and in that picture, she is calm, and sitting down and smiling, and you compare it to a picture of a live performance, where Lady Gaga's behavior is going to be different. Here's a better comparison. Before she was famous.
Now, with Oprah
This is a better comparison, since in the two pictures, Lady Gaga is relaxed and calm. They're both in a similar state. Not, one is just sitting down, the other one is an image of a performance.

Recently I've been listening to One Direction. I KNOW I KNOW, IT'S ANOTHER BOYBAND. There's a difference though; it's not JUST another boyband. These boys are extremely talented, and they're also polite, funny, and sweet. Not to mention they look amazing, which isn't why I like them, just part of the reason. But they're music just really helps me. It reminds me to keep following my dream, to sing. It cheers me up when I'm down and gets me super pumped. Plus, they're just great boys, which makes me like their music more. They've helped me through some hard times too. So I'm just really into One Direction right now
Slightly off topic from music therapy, but on topic for music, all of these artists, especially Lady Gaga, are fed to you.
The record companies decide who is advertised, who gets the follows on social network sites. They design it so you think you've made a discovery of a great artist - thinking this show their plan has worked.
Now I'm not going to be cynical and say that record companies are evil and it's wrong, as it certainly isn't - but in most of the cases for the artists you know and like, they have been advertised at one point in time. Lady Gaga has had so much radio airplay, so much Facebook coverage, TV coverage, her outfits, the controversy...it is planned, it's set out so even if you don't like her, you can immediately say quite a few things about her.
The different thing about Lady Gaga is that they've based her marketing on the idea that she helps everyone to fit in by being different (thus attracting those who feel like they have no-one, or minorities, etc). Having a devoted fan base is like putting chickens in a cage - fine by themselves, feed them the grain (a few songs) now and then. And the "haters", or simply those that don't like her, you can consider the foxes. Nobody wants to watch a cage of chickens, it's nothing special, but when the foxes start attacking the news spreads and it boosts the coverage.
it's just how it works, she's a marketing product and whether you're the chicken or the fox, you won't stop seeing news of her until the "big cats" decide you do.

Ducky, I HIGHLY doubt that. Lady Gaga isn't fake. She doesn't do what she does to get the most fans. I've seen her from the beginning in 2005 to now, and she's still the same sweet, good meaning woman she is now. The only thing that has changed, was her clothing.
Lucky Ducky wrote:I'm not saying she's fake at all, I'm saying that it's the full package, she's a show person and it's promoted that way.
Without it she wouldn't be in any way as successful as she is. She's a very inspirational woman but this is how every artist is popularised.
Would have to agree. After all, think of this: if not for the media, she would be that eccentric person that nobody cares about and that dresses funny...

I partically agree on the media thing that Shad said. She would've just stayed in New York performing at nightclubs, and parks, except, people DID care about her. A couple celebrities, Usher, Jesica Parker and Melanie Fiona knew Gaga when she was in New York, and did listen to her then. So, a lot of people did know about her before she became big.
EDIT: Also, Shad, if it weren't for the media, countless things wouldn't have happened. Most, if not all artists today wouldn't have been found.
