Windows 10

Postby TheKingsHills » 29 Jul 2015, 10:33

Windows 10 has begun being rolled out.
I've apparently been in the first wave so I'm beginning the install.
Probably downloading 3GB so I'll see you all in a few hours. Probably when I wake up.

Hopefully the rest of you upgrade without any issues!

So I'm liking Windows 10 so far. It looks nice, feels better than Windows 8.
But it's been so long since I've used Windows 7 to compare the two.

I did have issues activating my Windows 10 copy. Although that can be attributed to the large amount of people trying to activate right now.

The general screen looks pretty normal. A little weird, personally the new voice/search bar is a bit big so I had my taskbar changed to small buttons mode

The start menu looks pretty nice
It feels really nice to have it back and I do like the live tiles being integrated into the start menu. That was a feature I liked aboot Windows 8.1
http://prntscr.com/7yka90
Although the start menu does start off with some bleh live tiles. You can add your own and you can remove them.

The new search button is interesting. The little circle in my task bar is that.
I'm liking it.

Can't forget aboot Cortana
http://prntscr.com/7ykboq

This is how Windows 10 manages its multitasking/tabbing
http://prntscr.com/7ykcic

As you can see the add desktop button is there. It's also accessible by hitting WIndows+Tab
http://prntscr.com/7ykden
Each alt+tab is actually handled per desktop session. I really like that. Allows us to really divide separate desktop sessions. Really useful for single monitor users.

Here's the new Action Menu
http://prntscr.com/7ykdvv
Looks really nice, collapses a lot of information into a single little bar. Accessible by a button in your tray.
Haven't seen any hot corners or anything like that. Will be looking around for more.

That's it for now. If you want to see anything else just reply here and ask away.

The new Edge browser looks pretty interesting.
Follows flat UI looks nice, is pretty smooth in my experience so far. Haven't really used it much yet though.
http://prntscr.com/7ykfw2

The first page you're greeted to is the google like search bar as well as a large stream of articles and such. That you CAN customize
http://prntscr.com/7ykgm7

The settings button is a bit weird, the triple dots is an easy indicator although I'm unsure how intuitive that is to non-tech savvy people.
It looks like it's missing features most of us would really like to have.

Here's the integrated Web note feature.
Looks interesting, unsure complete of how it works or whether I'll use it.
http://prntscr.com/7ykhim

Our favorites bar.
It has the standard buttons. Favorites, History and Downloads. It also has a reading list(?) Unsure of what that will do
http://prntscr.com/7ykhxr

The new share menu
http://prntscr.com/7ykjao

Here are the Menu buttons in it's entirety.

I had forgotten a few screenshots
This is what the task bar looks like by default. I don't really like it so I went into task bar properties and turned the icons into small icons.
http://prntscr.com/7yocxe

This is the new Calendar/Clock menu.
Note I personally have mine set in 24h time yours should still reflect your preferences.
http://prntscr.com/7yod56

This is the wifi connections menu. They've added in an airplane mode. Potentially useful, a nice feature otherwise.

Yayyyyyyyyyyy <3

I'm so glad you made this. I don't want to make the switch yet, got too much going on. If Windows 10 is legit enough, I might make the free transition at our company where I can. Have you messed with the backup feature yet? I loved windows 7's, but windows 8's is a little more of a pain to set up (you have to use file versioning).

I have not messed with the backup feature quite yet. Looking around for it I found file history, but I don't currently have a drive to use it on.
As far as I'm aware at least.

You can always use a thumb stick. And too bad.

Keep on giving Edge a try, it's apparently faster than Firefox or chrome because of how featureless it is, whatever features those may be.

It has its ups and its downs but I do a lot of gaming. And Linux won't cut it for my gaming needs. Sure there's wine but FPS tends to take a pretty large toll from my experience with it. So I keep 1 laptop windows for gaming, and another laptop for Linux for everything else
